About WooCommerce Group Coupons
The discount everyone sees ends up going to the wrong people
A discount code published in a newsletter ends up on coupon forums, and the new customer, the distributor and the long-time customer all use the same code even though the promotion was meant for just one of them. WooCommerce coupons on their own don't know who the buyer is: WooCommerce Group Coupons adds that missing piece and lets you decide who can use each coupon based on their group or user role.
What WooCommerce Group Coupons decides on each coupon
- Automatic application: the discount is applied on its own to the members of a group, with no need to type the code at checkout. It works for anything from a promotion for any registered user to a fixed discount for distributors.
- Restriction by group: the coupon is valid only for members of one or more groups, and it can be combined with automatic application.
- Group exclusion: prevents certain groups from using a specific coupon.
- Restriction by role: limits the coupon to a WordPress role, for example Customer.
- Coupon shortcode: shows customers the coupons that apply to them, only when they are valid according to their account, the coupon settings and the shortcode settings.
Three situations, three ways to use it
Winning new customers without giving away margin to old ones
Create a welcome coupon and exclude the group or role of those who have already bought. The promotion reaches the people you want to attract, and it isn't used by those who would have bought anyway.
Selling to distributors or volume customers
If you work with customer tiers (for example a Level 1 and a Level 2), you can assign each group its own coupon and apply it automatically. The distributor sees their price without having to remember any code, and higher tiers can have access to more discounts than lower ones.
Rewarding people who already bought
Restrict a coupon to the Customer role: customers with purchases can use it, and registered users without purchases cannot. It's a simple way to give people a reason to come back.
The free Groups plugin is required for group settings
The group-based features depend on the free Groups plugin, which must be installed. The ones based on WordPress roles rely on the roles that already exist. Also, the plugin doesn't create assignment rules by itself: you decide how each user joins a group (manually, or with another system you already use). Nor is it a campaign tool: it doesn't send emails or generate bulk codes, it only controls coupon validity.
Frequently asked questions
Does the customer have to type the code?
Not necessarily. With automatic application, the discount is applied to group members without them entering anything at checkout.
Can I limit a coupon to several groups at once?
Yes, a coupon can be restricted to one or more groups.
Is it useful if I only use roles and not groups?
Yes, restriction by WordPress role works with user roles. The Groups plugin is still a requirement of the product.
Can I exclude certain customers from a promotion?
Yes, you can exclude specific groups from a coupon, for example for an offer meant only for new customers.
How do customers see their coupons?
With a shortcode that lists the coupons managed by the plugin that are valid for that person at that moment.
