About WooCommerce Lightspeed POS

The last unit gets sold twice: at the till and on the website

Anyone with both a physical store and an online store runs into the same problem: a customer pays at the counter for the last unit and, half an hour later, another one buys it on the website. Losing that sale is the least of it; the expensive part is writing the apology email, issuing the refund and explaining why the website said there was stock. The fault doesn't come from selling too little, but from running two inventories that depend on someone matching them by hand.

WooCommerce Lightspeed POS connects your WooCommerce store with Lightspeed Retail so both work with the same stock. If your catalog is already well kept in the point of sale, you don't have to rebuild it on the website.

WooCommerce Lightspeed POS on a normal day: from catalog to sale

Step 1: bring in the catalog you already have

From the Lightspeed section in WooCommerce you connect to your account and can import the whole Lightspeed catalog. Products are mapped automatically, so the online store ends up matching your point of sale. You need an active Lightspeed Retail account, either R-Series or X-Series.

Step 2: which data stays aligned

  • SKUs and identifiers, so each item matches its counterpart in the other system.
  • Titles, short descriptions and long descriptions.
  • Prices and sale prices, so the customer sees the same thing in store and online.
  • Stock quantities.

Step 3: sell through either channel

When a sale comes in through the point of sale, quantities update in WooCommerce. When an order comes in through WooCommerce, Lightspeed Retail shows the same numbers. If you sell clothing, footwear or other products with sizes or colors, Lightspeed matrix products correspond to WooCommerce variable products, and each variant syncs as a separate variation with its own SKU, price and stock.

Step 4: where the journey ends

It is specific to Lightspeed Retail: it does not integrate with Lightspeed eComm. It also only syncs with one Lightspeed store per WooCommerce site, so if you have several locations with separate accounts it won't work as is. And it makes no sense if you don't use Lightspeed yet, because the plugin starts from that account.

Common questions before connecting WooCommerce Lightspeed POS

How do I know whether my account is R-Series or X-Series?

Your Lightspeed dashboard shows it: you'll see "Retail (R-Series)" or "Retail POS (X-Series)." Both are supported.

Does it import my current catalog or do I have to create it again?

It gets imported. During the initial setup you can bring the whole Lightspeed catalog into WooCommerce.

Does it work with variable products?

Yes. Each variant of a matrix product arrives as an independent variation, with its own SKU, price and stock.

Can I connect several Lightspeed locations to the same website?

No. For now the plugin syncs with a single Lightspeed store per WooCommerce site.

Edit in Lightspeed, not in both places

Product data (reference, prices and descriptions) syncs from Lightspeed to WooCommerce. The sensible approach is to treat the point of sale as the source record and edit there, instead of manually touching up the same fields on the website. If your team is used to writing descriptions directly in WooCommerce, check beforehand how you want to split that work.
