About WooCommerce PayPal Standard (Multi Account)
Collecting in several currencies with a single PayPal account complicates your bookkeeping
The standard WooCommerce gateway only accepts the details of one account, so there is no way to separate payments by currency.
WooCommerce PayPal Standard (Multi Account): one PayPal account for each currency
This plugin extends the PayPal Standard gateway that already comes with WooCommerce. Instead of asking for a single account, it lets you enter the details of a different account for each currency enabled in the Aelia Currency Switcher. A dollar order goes to your US account, a euro order to the European one, and so on.
One idea worth keeping in mind: if your business operates in several markets, your accountant, your bank or your tax advisor will most likely want the income of each region kept separate.
How it behaves in the store
- It replaces the PayPal Standard gateway without redoing the checkout: you add the account details and it works, with no further configuration.
- One account per currency: the customer pays in the currency they chose and the money is redirected to the account assigned to it.
- It builds on the WooCommerce gateway: it does not invent a separate payment system, it extends the one you already know.
It declares compatibility with the Cost of Goods feature and with WooCommerce's product instance caching.
Is this plugin worth it, or is another solution enough? Limits and questions
Before deciding, keep in mind that this plugin does not work on its own: it needs the Aelia Currency Switcher for WooCommerce and, of course, one or more active PayPal accounts. It also requires the free Aelia Foundation Classes framework, which the plugin can install automatically. If you are not going to sell in several currencies with the Aelia switcher, it adds nothing for you.
Nor is it a new gateway.
Can I use it without the Currency Switcher?
No. The currencies and their distribution across accounts depend on the Aelia Currency Switcher.
Can I have two accounts for the same currency?
The plugin assigns one account per enabled currency, so the split is by currency, not by product or customer.
Do I have to reconfigure my checkout?
No: it replaces the PayPal Standard gateway and you only need to add the details of each account.
What kind of store is it for?
For stores that sell in several currencies and have, or want to have, separate PayPal accounts by region, for example one in dollars and another in euros.
