Asking for a photo review without sounding desperate
Hardly anyone writes a review on their own initiative: the customer receives the order, uses it and forgets about your store. WooCommerce Photo Reviews tackles the problem: it reminds the customer to leave an opinion and lets them upload images.
What the customer sees in the WooCommerce Photo Reviews review form
The plugin extends the rating form so photos and videos can be attached, and they are then shown on the product page. You can set the maximum size of each image and how many are allowed per review, which is useful so your server does not fill up with huge files.
- Filters and sorting: visitors filter by rating or by reviews with images, and sort by newest or oldest.
- Verified badge: it appears next to the name and can be customized with text, sample or icon.
- Hidden name: the author can be shown with asterisks, for example N**.
- Helpful or unhelpful button: the result is shown under each review.
- Captions: the author can add text to each image.
- Optional fields: you create questions with values to choose from (for example product details you want to collect) and the customer fills them in when leaving a review.
- Ajax pagination: visitors move to the next reviews without reloading the page.
- Consent checkbox: it shows a message so the customer agrees to share their review on your site.
From the admin you can edit the text of a review and rearrange or change its images. There is also an option to share the same reviews across a group of products, useful if you sell variants of the same item as separate listings.
Reminder emails and the coupon as an incentive
You schedule sending after an order status change. You can exclude specific products or categories, use your own sender address and offer a discount coupon to encourage photo uploads. The Review Now button in the email takes the customer straight to the form, and even logs them in automatically.
There are two template types: the plugin's original one or one built with the WooCommerce Email Template Customizer plugin, which is a separate add-on. Be careful with the coupon: if you give a discount in exchange for reviews, make sure the incentive does not depend on the opinion being positive.
Frequently asked questions
Can I import reviews from other stores?
Yes, the plugin can import reviews from AliExpress and Amazon, and also export them. Check that you have the right to publish that content.
Can I change how reviews look?
Yes. There is a default style and a grid style with the number of columns of your choice, background and text colors, an optional date, a rating count and your own CSS. You can also make the reviews tab the one that opens first.
Can customers see photos full size?
Yes, there is an option to show images at full size.
Does it work if I don't use WooCommerce?
No, it is designed for WooCommerce stores.
WordPress conditional tags: use them carefully
The plugin lets you show reviews through shortcodes on specific pages using WordPress conditional tags. To process them it uses eval(), a function that can run arbitrary PHP code. Fill in that field only with valid conditional tags from a trusted source, and do not let anyone edit it who should not.
Imported reviews need checking before they go live
Before launching the reminders, decide which order statuses will trigger them and with what delay, and test the email with an order of your own to confirm the button leads to the form. If you import external reviews, go through them one by one: confirm that the texts and images fit your products and do not mislead the buyer.
