About WooCommerce Shipping Multiple Addresses

The order that never comes to exist

Someone who wants to send gifts to three people and finds the store accepts only one shipping address will often remove items from the cart or leave. Shipping Multiple Addresses acts right there: it lets you split the items of a single order among several recipients, without forcing anyone to repeat the purchase.

It fits gift shops, seasonal sales (Christmas especially), corporate gifting or shipments to several offices. If almost all of your customers send the whole order to a single address, the extra checkout step won't pay off.

How WooCommerce Shipping Multiple Addresses splits a cart among recipients

At the shipping step, a notice with a button lets shoppers set multiple addresses. The buyer assigns products and quantities to each destination and chooses the shipping method for each one. It works with all WooCommerce shipping methods.

  • Cart duplication: copies the cart contents to send the same set to several recipients, ideal for the same gift to a whole family or team.
  • Saved addresses: customers keep several addresses in their account and reuse them, so anyone who often ships to the same people doesn't retype anything.
  • Exclusions: you can leave out specific products or entire categories, useful for bulky items or items whose fulfillment only allows one destination.

Note: the option appears at checkout, not in the cart, and only if there is more than one item. If you want customers to know about it earlier, you will have to promote it elsewhere in your store.

Notes, preferred date and invoice-free gifts for each address

Each destination can carry its own instructions: you enable delivery notes and, if you want, set a character limit. You can also offer a preferred date picker, defining which days of the week are valid and excluding specific dates, such as public holidays.

With gift packages enabled, the customer marks what goes to each address as a gift. You will see it when managing the order, and it signals that no invoice should be included in that shipment, so the recipient doesn't see what it cost. It is also compatible with Product Add-Ons, so a product's customizable options keep working even when each unit goes to a different place.

ShipStation, Stamps.com and TaxJar are out

Check your workflow before installing. This plugin is not compatible with the Stamps.com API integration, the ShipStation integration or TaxJar. With TaxJar, either multiple addresses are used and tax is not calculated, or a single address is used and tax is calculated.

  • Already solved: multiple addresses in one order, a shipping method per destination, saved addresses, notes, preferred date, gift marking and exclusion of products or categories.
  • Up to you: shipping management with ShipStation or Stamps.com, tax calculation with TaxJar and turning off the setting that forces shipping to the billing address, because with it active the option doesn't appear at checkout.

Common questions before setting up Shipping Multiple Addresses

How are shipping costs calculated?

Per address. Each destination is a separate shipment and the customer pays for each one, even though everything is bought in a single order. It's worth making sure they understand this before paying.

And taxes?

The tax rules you have configured in WooCommerce apply to the portion of the order going to each location. That way, each destination can be taxed at its own rate.

Can it help sell more?

It can help: someone who used to leave items out because they couldn't send them to another person can now include them. Results depend on your store and audience.

The option doesn't show at checkout, what's wrong?

Check three things: that you have enabled multiple shipping in the shipping settings, that shipping to the billing address is not forced, and that the cart has more than one item.
