About WooCommerce Simple Auctions – WordPress Auctions
Auctioning is easy; collecting from the winner is the hard part
Putting a product up for auction in a store often ends the same way: bids climb, the winner disappears and the item sits blocked for days without selling. In an auction the bidders set the price, but the money only arrives if the winner pays.
WooCommerce Simple Auctions adds an auction product type to WooCommerce that sits alongside your regular products. It includes tools built for that weak spot: payment reminders, relisting of failed or unpaid auctions and, with Stripe, automatic charging.
Four auction types and the prices you control
You can choose between normal, reverse and sealed (silent) auctions. It also supports automatic (proxy) bidding: the bidder enters a maximum and the system bids on their behalf.
- Start price and increment: they set the pace of the auction.
- Reserve price: if it is not reached, the auction is recorded as failed and you can relist it.
- Buy it now price: for those who do not want to wait until the end.
- Start and end dates: you can schedule future auctions.
The anti-sniping system extends the closing time when someone bids a few seconds before the end (you configure the margin). This keeps the auction from being decided by whoever clicks last rather than whoever offers the most. You can also charge the winner a commission.
Three stores, three different uses
A catalog store auctioning individual pieces
Auctions appear alongside your products or separately. Each auction carries a label on its thumbnail, and the user who is currently winning sees a badge. You can also auction virtual or downloadable products.
Someone building an eBay-style marketplace
With a multivendor plugin, your sellers publish their own auctions and you earn a commission. It works with Dokan and with WooCommerce Product Vendors. For vendors to submit auctions from their dashboard, the recommended combination is Dokan Starter plus Dokan Auction Integration.
Someone selling valuable pieces who fears unpaid auctions
Here the close matters more than the bidding. You get payment reminder emails, manual or automatic relisting of failed or unpaid auctions, and the option to delete a suspicious bid by hand.
What the bidder sees and what you control from the dashboard
The product page shows a tab with the bid history, which updates live with Ajax. Users have their own "My Auctions" page with active and won auctions, and a watchlist.
To highlight auctions on your site you have widgets for ending soon, future, latest, featured, recently viewed, your own and random auctions. Lists can be sorted by current bid, date, buy it now price, activity or soonest ending.
The emails are editable: outbid, auction won, payment reminder, auction failed, reserve not met, ending soon and new bid notices, among others. In the admin area there are winners and activity reports with CSV export. With the template shortcode you can place any part of the auction, such as the countdown, inside a page builder. Elementor is supported.
Common questions before the first auction
Does it work with my payment gateway?
It works with all WooCommerce payment gateways and with TeraWallet.
Can I limit who bids?
Yes, by user role, for example only registered customers. This option is added through an extension.
Can it be translated?
It is compatible with WPML and includes a PO file for translations.
What happens if the winner does not pay?
You can relist the auction manually or let it relist itself when it ends as failed or unpaid.
Automatic charging and verified cards: only with Stripe or an addon
Requiring a stored card to bid and automatically charging the winner works only with Stripe. Verifying payment details with other gateways requires an addon. Penny auctions are also added through an addon, and SMS alerts depend on a third-party plugin. For the marketplace you also need a multivendor plugin. One-minute cron jobs are recommended; if your hosting does not offer them, you can use an external cron service.
