About WooCommerce Vehicle Parts Finder - Make/Model/Year/Engine/Category/Keyword
Letting the customer know the part fits before they buy it
A parts store has a problem no other kind of shop has: the catalogue can be perfect and the customer still does not buy, because they are not sure the part fits their car. And when they buy without being sure, the problem does not go away, it turns into a return.
This plugin adds the search that solves it to WooCommerce: the customer states their vehicle and only sees what fits.
Four filter levels, all of them optional
Year, make, model and engine. Their being optional matters: some parts fit an entire make and year, and others depend on the specific engine. You can run a two-level search for the generic stock and four levels for the specific, without forcing the customer through fields that add nothing.
Field names can be changed to speak the way your sector speaks: "make" can become "brand" and "model" can become "series". In motorcycle, machinery or marine parts that terminology is not cosmetic, it is what makes the form understandable.
How it is set up
Three steps: build the vehicle list, by hand or by import; link each product to the vehicles it fits, from the product edit screen; and place the search form with a widget or a shortcode.
The importer, which is what makes a large catalogue viable
This is the difference between a plugin that works in a demo and one that holds a real catalogue. The CSV importer processes in batches so it does not time out on large files, and it ships details that genuinely save work:
- Year ranges: you write 2010-2015 and it expands into six years by itself.
- Comma-separated values in one cell, which expand into separate vehicles.
- Multiple SKUs per row, to link one vehicle to several products at once.
- Column mapping, so you do not have to reorder the file your supplier sent.
- Safe to re-run without duplicating, which is what lets you refresh the catalogue monthly without fear.
- Failed rows reported with their contents, so you can fix them rather than guess which one broke.
