About WP All Import - Toolset Types Add-On Pro
When your data lives in a spreadsheet and your site needs it as fields
If you build content with Toolset Types (custom content types, fields, relationships between posts), sooner or later you have to load hundreds of records that someone handed you in a CSV, an XML or an Excel sheet. Copying and pasting field by field is slow and error-prone, and relationship fields and repeatable groups are exactly the ones that are hardest to fill in by hand.
WP All Import - Toolset Types Add-On Pro is the add-on that teaches WP All Import to fill in those fields. The person who installs it is usually a developer or an agency building directories, catalogs or sites with many interrelated content types, and who already knows the structure is designed in Toolset, but the data almost never arrives in that structure.
Which Toolset Types fields it fills in and what it needs to work
You drag the elements of your file onto each Types field, without having to rewrite the file so it fits a specific structure. It supports these fields:
- Text and contact: Single Line, Multiple Lines, WYSIWYG, Email, Phone, URL, Skype.
- Selection: Checkbox, Checkboxes, Radio, Select, Colorpicker.
- Numbers and dates: Number, Date.
- Media: Image, File, Audio, Video, Embedded Media.
- Links: Post Reference and Relationships.
In relationship fields you can import one-to-one, one-to-many and many-to-many relationships, matching by slug, ID or title. Repeatable groups can also be imported, and there are several ways to do it depending on how your file is organized. Images and galleries are loaded from your computer, another server or any other location.
Important: it does not work on its own. You need WP All Import (the main plugin) in addition to this add-on, and Toolset Types already installed with its fields defined. The add-on does not create your content types or fields: it only fills them in. If Toolset adds a new field, support for it may take a while to arrive.
Transform data on the fly with PHP
If a piece of data arrives badly formatted (dates in another format, text with extra prefixes), you can pass it through PHP functions, native or custom, directly on each element and test the code on the import edit screen. There are also actions and filters to run code before, during or after the import. If you don't code, you won't need this part; if you do, it saves you from cleaning the file by hand.
Frequently asked questions
Can I import into relationship fields?
Yes: one-to-one, one-to-many and many-to-many, matching by slug, ID or title.
Does it work with repeatable groups?
Yes, there are several ways to import them from CSV, XML or Excel.
Can I schedule imports?
Yes, through WP All Import's automatic scheduling service or by creating cron jobs on your server.
Which plugins do I need to import?
WP All Import and this add-on. With WPML you can run imports into multilingual sites.
Does it only import into Toolset?
No: WP All Import can import into other plugins and themes, such as WooCommerce, but this add-on is the one that covers Toolset Types fields.
Large imports can be repeated on a schedule
When your data source changes (a supplier who sends a new file every week, for example), you can schedule the import instead of repeating it by hand. It is useful for directories or catalogs that are updated frequently. Performance with large volumes depends on your hosting, so test with a small batch first.
Test with a small batch before launching the full file
The most practical approach is to define your fields in Toolset Types first, prepare a file with a few rows that include a relationship, a repeatable group and an image, and run a test import. That way you check that relationship matching (by slug, ID or title) works as you expect before loading thousands of records. If everything fits, you repeat with the full file.
