About WP Grid Builder Bricks Addon

Filtering a listing in Bricks often ends in one of two things: custom queries or a filtering system that doesn't fit the rest of the design. This add-on connects Bricks with WP Grid Builder so filters act on the listing and not on the entire page.

A filterable catalog with WP Grid Builder Bricks Addon, step by step

Imagine you are building a product catalog or a blog with many posts and you want visitors to filter without unnecessary waiting. Here is how the case unfolds:

  • Step 1, insert the listing. Once the add-on is activated, two new elements appear in the Bricks editor: a grid and a facet. They are displayed inside the editor, so you see the result while you design, which doesn't happen with shortcodes.
  • Step 2, choose what gets filtered. You can use the WP Grid Builder grid or filter Bricks' own elements: Posts, Products, and also containers, blocks and divs with a query loop.
  • Step 3, add the facet. You insert the Facet element and, in the selection dropdown, pick the grid or element it should filter. That completes the connection.
  • Step 4, filter. When filtering, the add-on only fetches and renders the affected elements instead of rendering the whole page. That's why it is faster than filtering with custom queries or with archive results methods.

Where the process breaks if you don't prepare it well

Read this carefully before building the listing:

  • The facet must be on the same page as the content it filters.
  • It cannot be combined with another filtering system, such as the one in Bricks: it may cause unexpected behavior or conflicts.
  • It cannot filter query loops inside Components, because each Component encapsulates its own context.
  • Loops inside sliders and carousels are not supported.
  • Bricks' infinite scroll does not work with these elements. As an alternative, a facet can load more content on click or on scroll.
  • Bricks' query loop cache option must stay disabled to avoid issues.
  • For pagination, use a pagination facet instead of the Bricks pagination.

Filtering something that isn't on the page

If the element to filter lives in a popup template and doesn't appear on the page, you have to type the element ID by hand, which carries the prefix #brxe-. It's a technical detail, but it saves you a while wondering why the list doesn't show it.

Stores, archives and layouts with WP Grid Builder Bricks Addon

The Products element lets you filter shop listings. Grids can also display the results of Bricks archive templates. It also supports the Masonry layout, "no results" templates inside the loop and popups triggered from a query loop.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need WP Grid Builder in addition to Bricks?

Yes. It is an add-on that joins both: without WP Grid Builder there is nothing to connect.

Can I use it together with Bricks' native filters?

It is not recommended: two filtering systems on the same content can cause conflicts.

How many new elements does it add?

Two: Grid and Facet. The rest of the work is done on the Bricks elements you already use.
