About WP Mail SMTP Pro
When the form says «sent» and the message never arrives
A customer fills in your contact form, sees the success notice and waits. You receive nothing and you never even know that message existed. With WordPress's default mail, today's spam filters make it hard to reach the inbox if emails are not configured correctly.
WP Mail SMTP Pro changes the route: your emails go out through a sending provider with your domain authenticated, and you can also see what happened to each one.
One order in your store, step by step with WP Mail SMTP Pro
Picture a store with order confirmations, password notices and a contact form. Here is how the work is divided.
Step 1: choose who sends
You connect the plugin to a provider: SendLayer, SMTP.com, Brevo, Amazon SES, Google Workspace or Gmail, Mailgun, Microsoft 365 or Outlook.com, Postmark, SendGrid, SMTP2GO, SparkPost or Zoho Mail. Your own SMTP server credentials work too. The plugin is the bridge, not the sending service: you need an account open with the provider you choose.
Step 2: prove the sender is you
Providers verify your domain with DNS records. That is set up on your domain, so if you don't have DNS access, ask whoever manages it. Authenticating greatly improves your chances of reaching the inbox, but no plugin can guarantee it in every case.
Step 3: check what went out
The log stores every email sent from your WordPress, with its delivery status, the recipient and the content. When a customer says «I never got the confirmation», you stop arguing and check.
Step 4: don't find out late
- Failure alerts: immediate notices by email, SMS, Slack, Microsoft Teams, Discord or custom webhooks, so you can resend what matters.
- Backup connection: a second provider that takes over automatically if the main one fails. You need an account with that one too.
- Conditional routing: based on rules, some emails go out through one provider and others through another.
Step 5: measure what happens next
Reports show delivery statistics, and open and click tracking tells you how many emails get opened. It is designed for the emails your WordPress sends, not a marketing campaign platform.
Questions before installing WP Mail SMTP Pro
Do I need to know how to code?
No. Setup is done from the WordPress dashboard without writing code. What you do need is the provider's access details and, if you are going to verify the domain, DNS access.
Will it slow down my site?
It is built with performance in mind.
Does it work on WordPress.com?
You need a self-hosted WordPress on a hosting plan. On WordPress.com it only works with the Business plan or higher. It does not work on sites that don't use WordPress.
Does it work with Multisite and in Spanish?
Yes to both. On Multisite you can configure settings for the whole network or site by site, and the plugin is translated into Spanish.
If your site barely sends emails, you may not notice it
Almost every site sends some automatic notice, but the value shows where a lost email costs money: stores, memberships, quote forms. If you only have a blog with no forms or registrations, the change will be small.
