Bringing outside content into your WordPress
WP RSS Aggregator reads RSS feeds and brings them into your site. It can show them as a list or grid of links, or go a step further and import them as posts of your own, with the full text, filtered by keyword and with the option to summarise or rewrite them before publishing.
It is a powerful tool, and as with powerful tools, what decides whether it works is not the plugin but what it gets used for. Worth talking about that before the features.
Where it makes sense
- Aggregating your own sources: your several sites, your video channel, your podcast, your newsletter. The content is yours and you are only gathering it.
- Curating with a link: a list of headlines linking to the original source, which is what a trade newsletter does. It contributes selection, not copying.
- Sources with permission: job boards, press releases, official bulletins, partners who want you to republish them.
- Internal use: a sector monitoring dashboard for your team, neither indexed nor published.
And where it does not
Automatically importing full articles from other people's publications and posting them as your own has two problems, and neither is fixed by configuration.
The first is rights: reproducing a whole article without authorisation is an infringement, and a link at the bottom does not change that. The second is practical: Google recognises mass-copied content, and a site built that way does not rank, besides risking a manual action. The rewriting feature does not solve the first, and for the second it depends entirely on you adding something real.
