A compromised site does not break: it keeps working

Almost everybody pictures an attack as the site going down with the attacker's message on the home page. That barely happens any more, because it does not pay. What pays is getting in and touching nothing visible.

Your site keeps opening the same. What changes is underneath: junk mail goes out from your server, links slip in that only the search engine sees, or whoever arrives from Google ends up on another page while you, typing the address directly, notice nothing.

Which is why the owner is usually the last to find out, and the warning arrives from the expensive side: email stops being delivered, the host suspends the account or the search engine flags the site. The practical conclusion is that here something has to look inside, not only a harder door.

Two honest points worth making. One: no plugin replaces backups; faced with a compromised site, restoring clean is what solves it, and that part is the WPVivid licence. And two: most break-ins still come through weak passwords and unupdated plugins, so this accompanies maintenance, it does not replace it.

About licensing and the GPL

The code is distributed under the GPL licence and its use is free. Updates, support and activation against the maker's servers are separate services contracted with them. They are not the same thing, and buying one is not buying the other.
