About WPBulky WordPress Bulk Edit Post Types

When changing 300 posts means 300 clicks

Fixing a repeated link, moving everything old to draft, switching the author on a batch of articles or turning off comments on half the site: in the WordPress editor each change is made one item at a time, and on a site with years of content that becomes endless work.

Content ages faster than design. Anyone running a blog, a news site or a corporate site with hundreds of pages ends up with maintenance debt: outdated text, badly assigned categories, images that need replacing. WPBulky is built to pay off that debt in batches, with filters that narrow down what you touch and a table where you edit many rows at once.

WPBulky turns your content into a spreadsheet

Content is shown in a table and handled like a spreadsheet. You can select the whole table, columns, rows or a range, copy and paste, and drag the fill handle to apply a value to other cells. There is also a context menu, ascending and descending order, find and replace, row duplication, deletion of the selection and undo.

On text fields you can prepend, append or replace, which is handy for changing a repeated phrase across hundreds of excerpts. And in bulk you can:

  • Add, change or remove images
  • Enable or disable comments and trackbacks
  • Change the status: published, scheduled, pending, draft or private
  • Assign or remove categories and tags
  • Change the format: audio, gallery, image, link or video
  • Set, edit or remove the password
  • Change the author

Filters so you only touch what you should

The risky part of a bulk edit is editing too much. That is why filtering matters. You can narrow by ID (separating with commas or hyphens for ranges), title, content, excerpt and slug, and in the text fields choose whether it matches exactly, contains, does not contain, begins with, ends with or is empty. You can also filter by date range, status, author, categories, tags and formats.

The save filter button keeps your settings when you reload the page, and a field search helps you quickly find the column you want to edit.

WooCommerce products are left out

It helps to be clear about the boundaries before buying:

  • What it solves: posts, pages, media and custom post types; text, images, statuses, taxonomies, formats, passwords, authors and comments in bulk; and editing of custom fields, including third-party ones.
  • What it does not cover: WooCommerce types (product, shop_order and shop_coupon) cannot be edited with this plugin.
  • What to do in that case: for products there is a separate plugin, Bulky – WooCommerce Bulk Edit Products.

If your site is a store and you want to change prices or stock, this is not the plugin. If your store also has a blog and pages, it can help with that part. If you use custom fields from another plugin, check in the demo that they appear the way you expect.

History and undo: rehearse on a few rows first

The plugin records edits in a history and lets you undo in the table. Even so, a badly filtered bulk edit affects many rows at once. A sensible habit: filter, check how many rows come up, try a small group and only then apply the change to the rest. And back up the database before large operations.
