About WPC Smart Linked Products
Recommending product by product works until the catalog grows
Setting up upsells and cross-sells by hand in WooCommerce is reasonable with twenty products. With two hundred, the job gets abandoned halfway and what remains goes stale: recommendations of sold-out items, of past collections or of products you no longer sell. WPC Smart Linked Products changes the method: instead of picking links one by one, you define rules and the plugin links products in bulk.
A rule is defined once for a whole group of products (a category, for example); a manual list has to be redone on every product page.
Related products, upsells and cross-sells don't appear in the same place
It helps to tell them apart, because each type does a different job:
- Related products: they appear on the product page and share tags or categories with the one being viewed.
- Upsells: better and pricier versions of the current product; if the customer picks one, it replaces the version they were looking at.
- Cross-sells: complements bought alongside the main item. They are shown in the mini-cart and on the cart page, as a reminder of what may have been forgotten.
With this plugin you can promote custom upsells and cross-sells, and related products as well.
WPC Smart Linked Products rules: where linked products come from
Each rule defines which products are the main ones and which are linked to them. The available sources are:
- All products in the store, or specific products you choose.
- Product types (simple, variable, etc.).
- Tags and categories.
- Attributes, visibility and shipping classes.
- Brands (with the WPC Brands for WooCommerce plugin) and collections (with WPC Smart Product Collections for WooCommerce).
You can also limit how many linked products are shown and sort them so the priority option comes first. A single product can have several rules, and the order of the rules matters. There is also import and export of configurations.
Combining sources and filtering by price is a Premium feature
In the free version you pick a single source type per rule. The combined source, which lets you cross categories, tags, brands, attributes and more for both the main and the linked products, is exclusive to Premium, as is the price-level filter. One example: linking as cross-sells all the products in a collection that come in certain colors, excluding out-of-stock items.
It doesn't create discounts for buying together
This plugin suggests products; it doesn't apply a joint discount to them. For that there is WPC Frequently Bought Together. And if what you want is a related products list made by hand or by tags, WPC Custom Related Products is the specialized one, and it is compatible with this plugin.
Questions before buying
Can I link products to the whole catalog at once?
Yes. You can use the all-products source or a category, tag or type, and generate the linked products for many items at the same time.
Does it work for related products?
Yes, it can promote them. Even so, if related products are all you need, WPC Custom Related Products is built for that.
Can I choose which products appear first?
Yes: you limit the number and choose the sorting criterion and its direction.
Do I need Premium?
Only if you want to combine sources or filter by price. With one source per rule, the free version covers bulk linking.
Global rules live in the WPClever menu and fine-tuning happens on each product
The general rules are configured from the WPClever menu in the dashboard. If you also use WPC Custom Related Products, each product page shows a related products tab and a linked products tab, where you can adjust a specific case.
Start with a single category and check the result on the product page, in the mini-cart and on the cart page, which is where cross-sells appear. If you apply several rules to the same product, order them carefully: the order of the rules matters.
