About WPForms Coupons Addon
On a form, your discount reaches whatever the form says
You advertise a discount on your service, and the same form also charges a delivery fee. Your offer was about the service. The coupon, by default, reduces the whole order. Nobody notices until someone pays less than you had calculated.
In a store the discount usually lives in the coupon; here the scope lives in the form. It is set there, saved with the form and applied to every coupon allowed on it. Two offers with different scopes call for two forms.
WPForms Coupons adds discount codes to your payment forms without setting up a store. You create the coupon, place the field and set which items it applies to.
How each coupon is defined
- Your own code or a randomly generated one, plus an internal name customers do not see.
- Percentage or fixed amount. The currency comes from the WPForms payment settings.
- Start and end date and time. With no end date, the coupon never expires.
- Maximum uses in total. Left blank, there is no limit.
- Allowed forms: specific ones or all of them, with unlimited coupons.
Check carefully before saving: afterward, the code and the amount are locked.
Choosing which items get the discount
The Coupons Discount setting offers three options: All Payment Fields, the default, All Except Selected Fields and Only Selected Fields. It accepts Single Item, Multiple Items, Checkbox Items and Dropdown Items fields.
- A percentage is calculated only on the chosen fields.
- A fixed amount cannot exceed the total of those fields, and any remainder is not applied elsewhere.
- Payment fields inside a Repeater cannot be selected.
- The order summary labels which line received the discount.
If the coupon covers only certain items and the customer picks none, a notice appears and the form cannot be submitted until they select a valid one.
A 100% coupon blocks submission unless you prepare for it
By default, a full discount stops the form with an error, because gateways cannot process a zero payment. You solve it with conditional logic in two places:
- In the gateway settings, set the charge not to process when the Coupon field matches that code.
- On the payment field, set it to hide under the same condition, so nobody has to enter card details.
With PayPal Standard, the second step is skipped. Each form takes a single Coupon field, and customers apply one coupon per submission, so discounts do not stack on a single payment.
Creating the first coupon and measuring whether it worked
It requires WPForms installed, active and current, plus a payment gateway such as Stripe, PayPal, Square or Authorize.Net.
- Create the coupon under WPForms > Payments, Coupons tab.
- Drag the Coupon field, found in Payment Fields, onto your form.
- Pick the valid coupons in Allowed Coupons and set the scope.
- Run a test submission with each coupon before announcing it.
With Prefill by URL, a link fills in the code on arrival at the form. To measure, the Overview tab switches its graph to coupon usage, and the payments table shows which coupon was used and on which form. A used coupon cannot be deleted: it gets archived, which disables it without removing it.
If your sale does not run through WPForms
The base is WPForms Pro. To charge with Square from the form there is WPForms Square. If your forms are in Gravity Forms, Gravity Forms Coupons covers fixed amounts and percentages, and lets you decide whether coupons combine. With a WooCommerce store, look at Advanced Coupons.
Specific coupon cases
Can I add it to a form that already exists?
Yes. Drag the Coupon field onto that form in the builder.
Can I fix a mistyped code?
No. The code and amount are fixed on saving, so you need to create another coupon.
Can I run several promotions on one form?
Yes, with several allowed coupons. The customer uses one per submission.
Can each coupon discount different items?
Not on the same form: the scope applies to all of its coupons.
Can I change the button text?
Yes, in the field's Advanced tab, under Button Text.
Can the field appear only sometimes?
Yes, because it supports conditional logic.
