About WPForms User Registration Addon

Signing up on your site shouldn't depend on the default WordPress screen

If you run a community, a members area or a client area, you often end up with the default WordPress registration: a generic screen, with no branding, that asks for the bare minimum and tells you nothing else about the person signing up. The result is a user base full of anonymous accounts and, later, manual emails to find out who they are. WPForms User Registration Addon solves that: it turns any WPForms form into a sign-up form that creates the WordPress user account.

The idea behind it is simple: on a site with users, sign-up is the only moment when people are willing to answer questions. If you don't collect what you need then, it will be much harder to get it later.

How sign-up works with WPForms User Registration Addon

You activate the addon from the WPForms addons menu, create the form (from scratch or from a template), tick the option to enable user registration and map each field to its account property. The only essential piece of data is the email address, because WordPress requires it to create a user. It's usual to also add a username, name and password.

  • Custom fields: you ask for what you need, not just name, email and username.
  • Custom meta field mapping: extra data is saved in the user's profile, in the property you choose.
  • Custom confirmation emails: you can adapt the message people receive when they sign up.
  • Conditional logic: you show or hide fields and notifications depending on how each person answers.

What you can build depending on your situation

If you run a community or members area

With conditional logic you can create personalized forms and notifications based on how each person answers.

If you sell and want buyers to end up registered

On payment forms you can let people create an account with a simple checkbox. That way you don't need a separate sign-up step before buying.

If you want access to carry your brand

Besides sign-up, the addon lets you create login and password reset forms. You can customize both the page and the recovery emails, instead of leaving users on the standard WordPress screen.

If you already use WPForms for other things

Registration can be enabled on any type of form, so you don't have to learn another tool: it's the same drag and drop builder.

It needs WPForms installed and doesn't replace a membership system

It's an addon: it doesn't work on its own and requires the WPForms plugin to be active. It takes care of creating accounts and access forms, but it doesn't include restricted content areas or subscription plans. If you need to lock pages by membership level, you'll have to rely on another solution. Also check in your setup which user role new accounts receive, so you don't grant more permissions than necessary.

Frequently asked questions

The email address, because WordPress needs it to create the account. Everything else is optional, although it's a good idea to ask for a username, name and password.

Can I use it on any form?

Yes. Registration can be enabled on every form type: just turn on the option and map the fields.

Does it work for login and password recovery?

Yes, it lets you create login and password reset forms, with customizable emails.

Can I save extra data in the profile?

Yes, through custom meta field mapping, which links each field to a profile property.
