Typing on a phone stops more replies than you think
In a forum, the people who know the most are not always the ones who write the best. Answering a long question from a phone, with the keyboard covering half the screen, leads many members to read, nod and leave without replying. Every reply that goes unwritten is a thread that goes cold.
wpForo Voice Posting adds a microphone button to the topic and reply editors so members can give their answer by speaking. The message is posted as one more topic or reply, with an audio player so others can listen to it.
Mind the flip side: a voice message is listened to in full, not skimmed or easily quoted. Think about which threads it suits (introductions, opinions, long explanations) and where text is still the better choice.
How wpForo Voice Posting records and where its job ends
When the member clicks the microphone, the browser asks for permission to use it. If the member accepts, recording starts and a timer appears with stop and cancel buttons. The recording is processed by the member's own device. After stopping, the member can post it as a voice message or delete it and start again.

What you need to be clear about: it is an add-on for wpForo and does not work without that forum plugin. If the member denies microphone permission, no recording is possible. And the player is the one built into each browser, so its look changes from one to another: test it in the browsers your members use.

Can it be used in private messages?
Yes, it is compatible with the wpForo private messages add-on, so audio can also go in that type of conversation.
Will the audio files make the site heavy?
The recordings it creates are not large files, but you can still limit the length to control how much each message takes up. Do not assume there is an integration with external storage.
Can I decide who records and who listens?
Yes. Recording and listening are separate permissions and are assigned per forum access.
Does it work without wpForo?
No. It only adds voice to a forum that already runs on wpForo.
Permissions are assigned forum by forum, not all at once
In the wpForo dashboard, the accesses section lets you allow voice posting and listening to voice messages for each access. Those accesses are linked to usergroups in each forum's settings, so you will have to edit the forums one by one to see which group has which access.
The Voice Posting settings tab holds two options: the recording time limit and loading the JS libraries for certain usergroups.
A sensible order: start with a test forum, a short time limit and a small group of members, and widen it once you see how your community uses it.
