About WPLoyalty - WooCommerce Loyalty Points, Rewards and Referral

A points programme nobody redeems is not loyalty

It is what happens with most of them. The programme gets built, customers accumulate points, and there they stay, because nobody remembers having them or knows what they are for. The balance grows in the database, the shop sells not one extra unit, and in accounting terms all you have done is build up a debt.

What separates a programme that works from a decorative one is three things: the customer knowing how many points they have, knowing what they can do with them, and having a reason to use them soon. WPLoyalty brings all three.

How points get earned

  • On purchase, at whatever ratio you decide.
  • On signing up, the cheapest way of getting an account created.
  • On leaving a review, which solves two problems at once.
  • On referring, with a built-in referral programme.
  • On birthdays, social sharing and daily logins.

And how they get spent

Percentage or fixed amount coupons, free shipping, free products, or credit directly. Being able to choose matters: a customer who does not find the discount attractive may well redeem for the shipping.

The two features that make it genuinely work

Point expiry. It sounds like a punishment and it is the opposite: it is the only way of getting the customer back. A balance that never expires is a balance never looked at. With expiry and a warning before it arrives, you have a legitimate reason to write to them and they have a reason to return.

With a warning: in several countries the expiry terms for points and vouchers are regulated, and they have to be stated clearly in the programme's terms before the customer accumulates anything.

Tiers. Customers moving up a category as they spend more, with better rewards higher up. It works because it changes the conversation: it is no longer "I save two euros", it is "I am forty away from the next tier". In shops with repeat purchase it is what most raises average spend.

Requirements

It needs WooCommerce. It works with WPML and with multi-currency plugins, and allows importing and exporting customers by file, which matters if you are coming from another system and do not want to lose accumulated balances.

How to start

One. Decide first what a point is worth and write it down. If a point does not equal a clear amount, the customer cannot tell whether it interests them.

Two. Start with one way of earning and one way of redeeming. A programme with eight rules on day one is understood by nobody, starting with you.

Three. Put the balance where it can be seen: in the customer's account and in the cart, not hidden on a page.

Four. Configure expiry and the advance warning before launching, not after. Adding expiry to points already issued is a legal and a trust problem.

Alternatives in the catalogue

If what you need is not only loyalty but a package with gift cards, a wallet and refunds to credit, WooCommerce Smart Pack combines those four modules and its points side covers the basics.

If your goal is more about conditional discounting (buy one get one, cart rules, store credit), that is Advanced Coupons. And if what you want is predictable revenue rather than rewards, the different route is WooCommerce Subscriptions: in many businesses a subscription builds more loyalty than any points programme.
