When you grant the points decides whether they get spent before an order falls through

A customer pays for an order and, while waiting for shipping, already has points in their account. If the order is canceled or refunded later, those points have to be taken back, and by then they may already have been used on another purchase.

When you grant points is a decision with consequences: granting earlier gives them more time to be spent, and granting later reduces what you have to undo if the order falls through.

XT WooCommerce Points and Rewards Pro is a WooCommerce extension that gives points for purchases and other actions, and lets them be redeemed as a discount. It lets you choose that moment: when payment is received or only when the order reaches the Completed status.

What rules the points program has

• Rate and rounding: points are calculated per currency unit spent, with normal rounding, rounding down or rounding up.
• Per product: a specific number of points for each simple or variable product, with rules that can be overridden by category, product or variation.
• Coupons: a percentage modifier of the points when the order uses a coupon.
• Extra actions: store registration, first order, review, a spend threshold, a balance milestone and the birthday.
• Reversals: canceled orders remove the points they gave and refunds subtract them too.
• Earlier orders: points can be applied to orders placed before the extension was installed.
• Partial redemption: on the cart or checkout, with a minimum and maximum discount, fixed or percentage, and caps globally, per category or per product.
• Visibility: a badge over the product image in six positions, a notice on the product page, in the order and in the email, with every text editable.
• My Account: a My Points page with balance, rules and history, and a shortcode for the history.
• Admin: a list of users with their points, individual and bulk editing, a log filterable by event and month, history reset and expiry in days, weeks, months or years.

The extension can be enabled only for the roles you choose, and there is a filter, xt_woopr_should_award_purchase_points, to decide with code whether an order gives points.

Granting points on order completion

Suppose today you grant points on payment and prefer to grant them only when the order is completed. You pick that option in the settings and the log shows when the points appear. Take it as a starting point and adapt it to your store.

What it needs and what it works with

It needs WooCommerce. It is compatible with high-performance order storage, with the native cart and checkout blocks, with WooCommerce Currency Switcher, with WooCommerce Pre-Orders, with Loco Translate and with multisite. Among its functions there is no way to pay with points outside the cart or checkout.

Five steps to open the program

1. Install and activate the extension on a store with WooCommerce.
2. Define the points rate, the rounding and the moment they are granted.
3. Adjust the extra actions and the points expiry.
4. Set the minimum and maximum discount and the caps per category or product.
