Get paid before you sell: prepaid balance in your WooCommerce store
Every order forces the customer to pull out a card, type in details or approve the payment from an app, and at every step someone gives up. For people who buy often from the same shop, that ritual repeats again and again. YITH WooCommerce Account Funds lets your customers load credit into their account and spend it later, with a single upfront payment instead of one per order.
The idea behind the whole plugin: a customer who already has money inside your shop has a concrete reason to come back to it rather than go elsewhere. And you get paid before shipping anything.
How YITH WooCommerce Account Funds works under the hood
- My Account section: customers top up their balance and check their transactions and what they have spent it on.
- Form anywhere: with the widget or shortcodes you can place the top-up form or button on a specific page, in the footer or inside an article.
- Top-up limits: you set a minimum and maximum amount, and an increment (if you set 10, only 10, 20, 30… can be deposited).
- Allowed payment methods: you choose which methods can be used to buy credit and whether discount coupons are accepted on that purchase.
- Partial payment: at checkout the customer can pay with their balance and cover the rest with another method, for example 50 in credit and the remainder with PayPal. You decide whether to allow it.
- Low balance alert: an automatic email, with the threshold you set and customizable content, invites customers to top up when their credit runs out.
Which strategy fits your type of store
If you sell to repeat customers
You can reward top-ups (they pay 90 and receive 100 in credit). Buyers already know this mechanic from big platforms.
If you want to reward paying with balance
You can offer a cart discount (for example 5%) to those who pay with credit. A notice is shown on the cart and checkout, and the message is customizable. Be careful about stacking both discounts without doing the math: rewarding the top-up and also lowering the order reduces your margin twice.
If you manage the relationship by hand
There is a table where you see every customer's balance and edit it. It is useful for giving credit to your best buyers or fixing a mistake. It is a manual management tool, not an automatic rules system.

Frequently asked questions about customer balance
Can the customer pay only part of an order with their balance?
Yes, if you enable it. If the order is 100, they can use 60 in credit and pay 40 by card.
Can I give more credit than the customer pays?
Yes: you apply a discount on the credit purchase and the customer pays 180 to receive 200.
How does the customer know their credit is running out?
Through the automatic email that is triggered when it falls below the amount you define.
Can I restrict which methods are used to top up?
Yes, you choose the payment methods allowed for buying credit.
Sort out the accounting before offering balance
The plugin manages credit inside WooCommerce, but a prepaid balance has tax and accounting implications that depend on your country and your business. Before launching it, ask your accountant how to treat money collected in advance and whether you must invoice the top-up or the spending.
