If you sell software, video games, video courses, audiobooks or music, the featured image falls short: nobody decides to buy an album by looking at a cover. And most shop themes only let you upload images. This plugin lets you place a video or an audio file in the spot of the featured image on the product page.
What buyers of digital products need to hear or see before paying
With a digital product there is nothing to touch, so the preview acts as the shop window. A game trailer, a software demonstration or an audiobook sample answers doubts that no description can. It also works for physical products: a professional presentation video, or photos from different angles and uses, give a fuller idea of what is being bought.
YITH WooCommerce Featured Audio and Video Content: features and their limits
Here is what it lets you do, and what is worth knowing about each item:
- YouTube or Vimeo videos in place of the featured image, on one or several products.
- Your own videos uploaded to the WordPress gallery, so you don't depend on YouTube or Vimeo.
- Playback controls: you can show them, loop the video, autoplay it or stop users from pausing it. You can also set a custom aspect ratio and change the colors of the control bar.
- SoundCloud audio: link tracks, create a playlist and show the file information.
- Modal window: the video or audio opens in a pop-up.
- Variable products: you can attach videos and audio to each variation, so every version has its own content.
- Sidebar: the video slider widget shows the videos in the sidebar instead of below the image gallery.
The limits, clearly: the plugin is not compatible with Elementor, so if you build your product pages with that page builder, this is not your plugin. Audio is added as SoundCloud tracks. And if you combine it with YITH WooCommerce Product Gallery and Image Zoom (bought separately), the video or audio replaces the featured image and is not shown in a pop-up.

Does it work with Elementor?
No. The plugin is not compatible with Elementor.
Do I have to host videos on YouTube or Vimeo?
No. You can link YouTube or Vimeo, or upload your own video to the WordPress gallery.
Can I put music on my products?
Yes, through SoundCloud tracks, which can also be grouped into a playlist.
Does it work for products with variations?
Yes, you can link videos and audio to specific variations.
Can the plugin be translated?
Yes, it is compatible with WPML and is ready to be translated.
One screen for managers and another for the buyer
If your team manages products from a front-end panel, the plugin integrates with YITH Frontend Manager for WooCommerce, so a shop manager can add or remove videos. That integration requires buying and activating that plugin, which is not included.
Decide first where the video will go on each page
Before loading content, choose the format: does it replace the featured image, group into a gallery below it, open in a modal window or go in the sidebar? Check in the demo how it behaves on mobile and with your theme. It is compatible with the YITH Proteo theme and with Flatsome; with other themes, test with one product before rolling it out.
