People who live off advertising on their site usually start by pasting the AdSense code into the theme or a widget, and stop there. The ads show up in areas nobody looks at, push the text around while the page loads, or sit awkwardly against an image. Besides the usual positions (before or after a paragraph, between paragraphs, header and footer), the plugin lets you target a specific page element with CSS selectors. That way you can place a block where other managers can't reach. You also work with widgets and shortcodes, and you can insert HTML, CSS, JavaScript or PHP, not just ads: opt-in forms, header and footer scripts or analytics code.

Control over where an ad does NOT appear is just as useful:

• Insert or exclude by category, tag, taxonomy, content type, ID or URL.
• Conditions by IP address, URL parameters, cookies or referer.
• Exclude ads on specific posts or pages.
• Avoid insertion near images or headings.
• Different ads on desktop, tablet and phone, plus scheduling by date.

Measure, test and protect your account before touching more positions

This is the part that separates a serious manager from a simple inserter. The plugin counts impressions and clicks, generates reports (also in PDF) and supports A/B tests. It can optimize banner rotation based on CTR and limit the frequency of impressions or clicks. With that data you decide which position to keep instead of trusting your gut.

For AdSense it includes account integration, a code generator and preview, support for responsive ads and AMP pages, and detection of blank blocks so you can replace or hide them. As protection against click fraud it offers blocking by cookie and by IP, plus an invalid traffic check with reCAPTCHA. If you worry about layout jumping as ads load, it has options to avoid content shift (CLS).

There is also geotargeting down to country, state, region and city level, sticky ads with animations, parallax ads, ad blocker detection with actions such as a pop-up message, ad replacement or content protection, and support for Ad Manager (DFP).

Is Ad Inserter Pro enough or do you need something more on your site?

The plugin manages the ad code you already have: it doesn't bring advertisers or ad network accounts. All settings are on a single page, which is convenient, but with so many options it pays to test calmly and use the preview before publishing. If you insert PHP code, check it carefully: an error there affects the whole site. And although it can hold back ad insertion until consent is given, the cookie notice is still your job.
