The backup that runs itself and goes somewhere else
The two conditions for a backup that is worth anything are that it happens without anybody remembering, and that it ends up on a server other than the one hosting the site. If it depends on somebody pressing a button, the busy month it does not happen. And if it stays on the same server, the day that server fails both things are lost at once.
This All-in-One WP Migration extension adds Dropbox as a destination, with automatic scheduling.

Why Dropbox rather than your own server
Because it clears the browser upload limit, which is what blocks backups as soon as a site grows, and because it takes the file away from where the site lives.
That second point is the one most often overlooked. A backup saved in a folder on the hosting itself protects against almost nothing: if the server corrupts, if the provider suspends the account or if somebody breaks in, it takes the site and the backup in the same movement. With the backup in external storage, the disaster only takes one of the two.
Requirements
It needs the All-in-One WP Migration plugin installed, which is what actually generates the file. This extension supplies the destination, not the mechanism. And a Dropbox account with enough space: the file contains the whole site, database included.
How to start
One. Connect the Dropbox account in the extension's settings.
Two. Run a full manual backup and check it appears in Dropbox at the size you expect.
Three. Schedule the frequency. Daily for a shop taking orders, weekly for a site that barely changes.
Four, and this is the one nobody does: restore that backup onto a test site. A backup never restored is not a backup, it is a file you hope works.
Alternatives in the catalogue
