About AutomatorWP MemberPress Addon
Leaving a membership has three names, and your rule listens to only one
A member stops paying and you want them, that same day, to lose access to another tool, get a goodbye email and move to a different list. You write the rule, test it with a cancellation and it works. Weeks later you find out another member left and the rule never noticed.
Canceling, suspending and expiring are three different events, each with its own trigger, so a "goodbye" automation that listens to just one leaves the other two out.
This add-on connects AutomatorWP to MemberPress. It brings triggers such as "User cancels a membership", "User suspends a membership" and "User's membership expires", and they can be combined with actions from other integrated plugins. With it you decide how many rules your exit process needs: one for each event you want to cover.
MemberPress triggers and actions
The triggers follow the member from purchase to exit:
- Purchase of a membership, whatever its type.
- Purchase of a one-time membership and purchase of a recurring membership, separately.
- Registration with a field value: it fires when the user registers with a specific value in a form field.
- View of a membership, useful to know who is looking at it.
- Cancellation, suspension and expiration of a membership, each as its own trigger.
- Sub-account added to a parent account, for accounts with several people.
There are also course triggers: starting a course, completing it, completing a lesson and viewing a course.
There are three actions: add a membership to a user, remove a membership from a user and cancel a user's membership.
A use idea: give a membership when a course ends
Pick the trigger for completing a course and the action to add a membership to the user. The student who finishes the course receives the membership you chose, with nobody assigning it by hand.
If the membership is meant to last a short time, also create a rule with the action that removes it. This is one idea of use; adjust it to your site.
Functions it does not include
The add-on does not replace MemberPress: it needs MemberPress installed, because MemberPress is what manages memberships, payments and access. Among its functions there are no filters of its own, so extra conditions depend on the rest of AutomatorWP.
The actions in this add-on are the three membership ones. Those three and every trigger except the general membership purchase, including cancel, suspend and expire, are Pro level, so check in the editor which ones you can choose. Among its functions there are no others, such as sending an email; if your rule must do more, combine it with an action from another integration.
Putting the first rule to work
Before you start you need AutomatorWP and MemberPress active on the same site. Then:
- Install and activate the add-on with the WordPress plugin installer.
- Open AutomatorWP in the side menu and create a new automation.
- Add a MemberPress trigger, for example the cancellation of a membership, and choose which membership it refers to.
- Add the action you want, from MemberPress or another integration.
- Activate the automation.
Plugins to cover what this one does not
If you are looking for the engine that runs the automations, see AutomatorWP Pro. To send or receive data from other services, you can review AutomatorWP Webhooks. If your membership lives in another system, the alternative is Paid Memberships Pro.
