About Barn2 Media Posts Table Pro
If your blog archive buries exactly what people come looking for
A post archive orders content the way the person publishing it thinks: from newest to oldest. But your visitors don't think in dates. They look for the report in a specific category, the podcast on a given topic or the document someone emailed them, and they give up after two screens of scrolling. Barn2 Media Posts Table Pro is made for that: you already have a lot of published content and you want it to be found by searching, sorting and filtering.
It fits if you run a document library, a directory, an audio or video catalog, an events listing or a portfolio. It's not for you in these cases:
- You want a spreadsheet with cells you type by hand: the table is fed by WordPress content (posts, pages, custom post types), not by hand-entered data.
- You expect an events calendar: it can list events and sort them by date, but it is still a table.
- You want the table to replace your blog on its own: to bring it to the blog page, categories or search results, you have to edit theme template files.
Columns made to measure and filters that count results
You choose which columns appear: ID, title, content, excerpt, image, date, date modified, author, categories, tags, status and a button linking to the post. If that's not enough, you can add columns with custom fields or taxonomies. You can also merge several into one (for example, the title above the excerpt), rename the headings or remove them, and keep the header fixed while scrolling through a long table.
Visitors get a keyword search box and dropdown filters, either above the table or in the column headings. Each filter allows multiple selections, has its own search box and shows how many results each option gives, and an active filters area reminds them what the list has been narrowed to. Clicking a heading sorts by that column, even by several at once, and if you set the column as text, number or date, the order respects its type.
With unique URLs switched on, the address changes as people search, filter or sort: handy for saving a view or sending it to someone.
Deciding what goes into Posts Table Pro without copying data
The table is fed by what you have already published and updates itself when you add or change content. You can list:
- By category, tag, status, date (day, week or month), taxonomy term or custom field value.
- Including or excluding specific posts by ID, or excluding whole categories.
- With a maximum number of posts and a set number of rows per page.
Creating tables is a guided step-by-step process, and you can have as many as you want, each with different content and settings. They are placed with a block or a shortcode. If you use dates in custom fields (typical for events), mark that column as a date or the order will come out wrong.
Audio, images and mobile with Posts Table Pro
Featured images can be enlarged in a lightbox, and audio, video and playlists play inside the table itself. You can also decide whether content generated by other shortcodes, such as buttons or players, is shown.
On small screens the table adapts by itself: you mark which columns are hidden first, what shows on each device and whether hidden columns open with the + icon or in a modal window. To move through rows you have four pagination button styles or infinite scroll inside a fixed height.
With large tables, lazy loading requests one page of the table at a time via AJAX, and there is optional caching. It is compatible with WPML, Weglot and TranslatePress.
Typical doubts before building your first table
Can I list store products or my own content types?
Yes: posts, pages, any custom post type, and also products, events or portfolio items if they exist as content in your WordPress.
Will it look like my site?
There are 7 design templates and options for fonts, colors and spacing to match your brand. By default it adapts to your theme.
Does it get slow with thousands of posts?
It is built not to: it loads by pages and allows caching. Even so, check in the demo how it behaves with your volume.
Can I send someone a search I have already run?
Yes, by switching on the table's unique URLs.
