The small print on the booking engine
Worth knowing before buying: what comes included is the free version of the booking plugin. The paid add-ons are acquired separately.
Worth opening the list of those add-ons and checking which one holds what your business needs, because it tends to be precisely the taking-payment part: gateways, deposits, coupons, seasonal pricing. With the free version you can have availability and requests; the rest depends on what you add.
A note from the sector
Activity platforms take a considerable commission on every place sold, and for a small operator that commission is a good part of the margin. Which is why your own site with direct booking does not compete with them: it coexists. The platforms bring the new customer, the website recovers the repeat visitor and the one who arrives on a recommendation, who are the ones that cost nothing.
