About Brøk – Architecture Theme
An architecture practice gets hired on three projects, not thirty
It is the difference from almost any other portfolio. A client about to commission a house or a refurbishment does not scan forty thumbnails: they look at two or three works in depth, and what decides is whether they understand how you work. The drawings, the process, the decisions you took, how it ended up lived in.
Which is why an architecture website stakes everything on the project page, not the homepage. Brok is built with that hierarchy.
What it brings for presenting work
- Several portfolio formats: list, by category, slider and horizontal version.
- Interactive showcase and fullscreen slider, which is where architectural photography shines.
- Project sheet with data: area, year, location, type of commission.
- Nine homepages pre-designed with their inner pages.
- Post formats with audio, video, gallery, quote and link.
It is edited with Elementor, brings more than forty of its own shortcodes, three header types, a configurable mega menu and Slider Revolution included.
How a project gets told
The theme gives the formats; what decides is what you put inside, and in this sector there is a structure that works.
The brief. What the client asked for and under what constraints: plot, budget, planning rules, orientation. Without that, the photographs are lovely and nothing more.
The decision. The specific problem there was and how you solved it. It is the part that demonstrates judgement and the one almost nobody writes.
The result. Photography of the finished building, and if possible, inhabited. A house with people in it sells better than a perfectly lit empty one.
The drawings. Plan and section. The lay client cares less, but the colleague who will recommend you and the competition you enter care a great deal.
Requirements
It is a WordPress theme laid out with Elementor. It includes Slider Revolution and is compatible with Contact Form 7, with WooCommerce if you also sell something, and with WPML for a second language, which matters for practices working abroad.
How to start
One. Pick three projects and work them thoroughly before uploading the rest. Three well told are worth more than fifteen in a grid.
Two. Watch the image weight. Architectural photography is large by nature and it is what makes these sites slow. Compress, and use modern formats.
Three. Put contact details where they can be seen, with a phone number. In professional services people call.
Four. Replace every demo image. Besides carrying their own licence, they are what makes the template recognisable.
Alternatives in the catalogue
If you would rather not depend on a theme for the portfolio and be able to change design without rebuilding it, Visual Portfolio is a plugin building portfolios with nested albums on whatever theme you already have.
If the practice is more design and communication than building, Agencium is aimed at creative agencies and its strength is case studies. And if you are going to customise down to the last detail, Uncode and Salient are the two veterans of the creative portfolio, with the trade-off that both use a proprietary builder and tie the pages to the theme.
