About BuddyPress User Testimonials

When members recommend each other, the profile carries more weight

On a social network of professionals, students or freelancers, a profile often ends up as a photo, a bio and an activity feed. What is missing is what matters most when deciding whether to trust someone: what other members say about that person. BuddyPress User Testimonials adds exactly that: one member can leave a testimonial or recommendation for another inside your BuddyPress community.

How BuddyPress User Testimonials works day to day

The plugin has a single purpose: letting users recommend each other. It does not try to be a product review system or a general rating module.

  • Pending status: there is a pending testimonial screen, useful if you don't want everything published straight away.
  • Notifications: an alert inside the network and an email alert, with preference settings for the member. If a user never saved an email preference, the alert is on by default.
  • Testimonials widget.
  • Control over who uses it: there are hooks to decide which users have testimonials enabled, although adjusting them requires some code.

Under the hood it uses custom post types in an optimized way, so it doesn't clutter the database with extra tables.

A recommendation is worth as much as the person writing it

The problem with a community built on recommendations between members is not getting testimonials, but making them valuable. If everyone praises each other out of politeness, the recommendations block turns into noise and nobody looks at it. Before enabling it, think about who will be able to write, whether there will be a minimum seniority or activity, and whether you prefer to review pending items before they appear.

The model resembles LinkedIn recommendations or the old Orkut testimonials, and it can also work as a review system between users.

Decide whether BuddyPress User Testimonials fits your community

It fits if you already have an active BuddyPress network and want profiles to build trust between members. If you haven't built the community yet, the plugin does nothing on its own: it depends on BuddyPress. Nor does it turn your site into an opinion portal about products or services. It declares compatibility with BuddyBoss Platform, and in the demo it's worth checking how the form looks with your theme.

Does it work without BuddyPress?

No. It is a BuddyPress add-on and adds testimonials between the users of that network.

Is it suitable for product reviews in a store?

That is not its purpose. It is designed for some users to recommend others, not to rate items.

Can I limit who has testimonials?

Yes, through hooks designed to control which users have them enabled. That means touching code or asking a developer.

Is the member notified when they receive one?

Yes, with a notification inside the network and by email, and the user can adjust their preferences.

Can they be shown outside the profile?

Yes, it includes a testimonials widget.
