Your subscribers pay to believe someone is on the other side
A person signs up, uploads their best photo and gets the first messages. Several seem written by the same account and another asks to leave the site as soon as possible. That person does not complain: they simply stop renewing.
On a dating site, what you charge for each month is the assurance that the profile opposite is a real person. Chat and search are the means. If someone doubts the profiles, none of those features keeps the subscription alive.
DateBook, by Pagick, is a WordPress theme for opening a dating site with profiles, messaging and paid plans already integrated.
The pieces that filter who gets in
- Verified profiles, to tell checked accounts from the rest.
- Email validation and Google reCAPTCHA on the login and registration forms.
- Blacklist of profiles.
- Watermarks on profile images.
- Photo blur for visitors without registration or a subscription.
- Profile deactivation and deletion by the users themselves.
None of them decides for you: who gets the verified mark and with what check is a job for your team, and it deserves a written standard from day one.
The demo profiles switch
The theme lets you turn on online indicators on demo profiles, so that they look active. It helps a new site not look empty, and for that very reason it is worth deciding calmly how to use it.
If a subscriber finds out they were writing to a sample account, the damage reaches every profile they have seen. Anyone opening with demo profiles should be clear on when they will remove them, and should not mix them with the real profiles that receive messages.

How a DateBook site gets paid
Subscriptions come integrated, so no membership plugin is needed. There are two ways to charge:
- The theme's own system, with several plans and PayPal and Paystack gateways.
- WooCommerce Subscriptions, with the gateway plugins you install yourself. Those plugins do not come with the theme, so check first that one exists for your country.
You can reserve viewing and searching profiles for subscribers, give a free subscription to the genders you choose and highlight profiles with the Featured and Top statuses. Before opening, decide what each person sees for free: if they find nobody interesting, they will have no reason to pay.
A dedicated mobile app is not among its features; access is through the web, with a responsive design.
Three decisions to finish the setup
The theme can run on a modest server, from 512 MB of RAM. It is compatible with WPML and with page builders, and it is not optimized for Gutenberg.
After installing and activating it, this order works well:
- Define the profile fields for your audience and keep only the useful ones in search.
- Set the limit on the number and size of images.
- Create the plans, connect the gateway and run a full test purchase with two accounts that write to each other.

Do I need a membership plugin?
No. Subscriptions are integrated into the theme. Only if you charge through WooCommerce will you also need its gateway plugins.
Does it work for an LGBTQ+ audience?
It includes different genders and sexual orientations, plus couple profiles. Review the registration and search options so they fit your audience.
Can I charge with Stripe?
The gateways in the theme's own system are PayPal and Paystack. Any other would go through WooCommerce and a plugin you must check and install yourself.
