About DevKit Pro

Asking a client for FTP access is half a morning gone

Anyone who maintains other people's websites knows the slow part isn't coding: it's getting credentials, opening cPanel, uploading a zip, unzipping it and repeating it on the next site. DevKit Pro puts those daily tasks inside the WordPress dashboard, so with admin access you don't need FTP, SSH or cPanel for most of the work.

It suits freelancers and agencies who look after many client sites, anyone working on hosting without SSH, and anyone who moves sites between staging and production.

Plugins and themes: drag, overwrite and download in one go

You can drop several plugins at once from your computer, from Google Drive or by searching for a WordPress.org user. The most useful part is overwriting an active plugin without deactivating it, because deactivating some plugins makes them lose their settings. It also works for your own code: you compile locally and upload only the production-ready files.

Themes work the same way: you upload the parent and the child theme in a single gesture and overwrite files without deleting and uploading again. And if you always install the same kit on every site, you pick several plugins from a dropdown and download them together.

When something breaks: server data, error log and Adminer

DevKit Pro shows the PHP version, the memory and upload limits, CRON, the server type and the log location, so you can rule out incompatibilities before blaming a plugin. Debug mode is enabled without touching wp-config.php: it creates debug.log, shows errors, adds JavaScript errors and saves queries in $wpdb. You read the log from the dashboard and clear it with a button. You can even hide DevKit Pro from the plugins list.

For the database it uses AdminerEvo, a single PHP file, instead of phpMyAdmin. It also includes search and replace across the whole database with a dry run mode that shows the changes before applying them.

DevKit Pro as file manager, Monaco editor and terminal

The file manager lets you create, rename, delete, compress, uncompress and upload, with a right-click menu. The editor uses Monaco, the engine of Visual Studio: full screen or tabs with all your open files. The terminal brings WP-CLI inside wp-admin, useful if your hosting doesn't give SSH.

Sync moves the database and files between two sites that both run DevKit: one generates a connection key, the other pastes it, and you can pull or push. It rewrites URLs and takes a safety backup before overwriting.

Small fixes WordPress doesn't ship with

  • Granular reset: database (choosing which users to keep), content, wp-content, plugins or themes, with a list of protected values.
  • Maintenance mode: a simple template or your own HTML and CSS, for the whole site, the homepage, archives or specific pages.
  • Users: rename a user, change roles from the list and log in as another user with a button to switch back.
  • Images: WebP conversion, resizing, custom thumbnail sizes and SVG control by role.
  • Notes: notes per client or site, private or shared with other admins and editors.

Backups are still your job

DevKit Pro is not a backup plugin. Sync saves a safety backup before overwriting a site, but that doesn't replace your regular backups.

  • Already solved: installing and overwriting plugins and themes, reading the log, editing files, managing the database, running WP-CLI and syncing sites.
  • You cover it: regular backups, a backup before a reset or before editing files on a live site, and having admin access on each site.

DevKit Pro frequently asked questions

Can I use WP-CLI if my hosting has no SSH?

Yes. The DevKit Pro terminal runs inside wp-admin and includes WP-CLI.

Will I lose settings when overwriting an active plugin?

It is overwritten without deactivating it, precisely to avoid the loss of settings that deactivating some plugins causes.

Does the reset also delete DevKit Pro?

No: when deleting plugins, DevKit is excluded. You can also protect specific database values.

Does Sync work with any destination site?

No: both sites must run DevKit. One provides the connection key and the other enters it.
