Charging for a listing nobody knows how to deliver
A directory with good traffic often hits the same wall: users want to sell something (a fixed-price service, a downloadable file), but the directory only knows how to display listings. You end up charging by private message, by hand, with no control over who downloaded what or how much each party is owed.
Directorist Digital Marketplace connects Directorist with WooCommerce so that each listing becomes a downloadable digital product. The buyer pays at the WooCommerce checkout, receives a download link, and both you and the listing owner earn a commission on every sale.
Commissions and payouts: the vendor's money is not yours
This is what matters most in a marketplace: vendors stay if they see their balance clearly and can cash it out. The plugin covers that side:
- Administrator commission per order, with a default rate or a custom one for each vendor.
- Minimum payout amount: the vendor can only request payment once the available balance reaches that figure.
- Several payout methods that the administrator can define, from which the vendor picks the preferred one.
- A dashboard where the vendor sees total orders, amount, units sold, payout history and earnings with their status.
Note that it manages the balance and the requests, but the actual transfer of money to the vendor is up to you, through the method you have defined.
Tiered pricing, stock and download limits in Directorist Digital Marketplace
It is not just a buy button. You can create tiers and extras with different prices, add available stock to the download and even set an hourly price, useful if what is sold is a service measured in time. A Buy Now button can be placed in the listing builder, on the single listing page and as a widget.
To protect files, the administrator can limit how many times each file is downloaded within an order. The buyer has a downloads list showing how many remain. After payment they receive a confirmation with the link.
One operating detail: the extension replaces the file upload field with the connection to the WooCommerce checkout. It is not about uploading just any file in the form, but about going through the purchase flow.
Deciding if a marketplace on Directorist suits you, and common questions
It is an add-on: it needs the Directorist plugin and WooCommerce up and running. It does not work as a standalone store and does not replace a directory. If your idea is to sell physical products with shipping, it is not designed for that: its territory is digital downloads and fixed-price services.
Can I charge a different commission to each vendor?
Yes. You set a default rate and can apply a custom one to specific vendors.
Can vendors request their earnings?
Yes, from their dashboard, as long as the balance reaches the minimum you have set. You choose the available payout methods.
Can I stop a buyer from downloading the file without limit?
Yes: the number of downloads is limited per file and order, and the buyer sees how many are left.
Does it work for selling services?
Yes, fixed-price ones, with tiers, extras and hourly pricing. Delivery follows the digital download flow, so check in the demo whether it fits how you deliver your service.
