About Directorist Social Login
A long registration form scares off exactly the people who were going to contribute
In a directory, registration is the front door for anyone who wants to publish a listing or take part. If that door asks for a username, a password, an email and a wait for a validation message, some of those people leave before they get in. And in a directory, every visitor who doesn't sign up is one more listing nobody will publish.
Directorist Social Login removes that obstacle: visitors get in with their Facebook or Google profile in a single click, without filling in the registration form, without waiting for validation emails and without remembering yet another password.
That said, the shortcut isn't for everyone: people who use neither Facebook nor Google will still need the usual registration.
Directorist Social Login with Facebook, Google or both at once
It's an extension for directories built with Directorist. Here is what it does:
- Facebook login: users sign in with their Facebook credentials and don't have to type a username and password every time.
- Google login: an alternative for people who don't use Facebook, with the same quick registration.
- One network or both: you can enable both or keep only the one that suits your audience.
- Setup with the App ID: the integration only asks for the application ID of each network.
- Optional debugging mode: a mode you can turn on if you need it.
The limits, plainly: it doesn't work on its own, it needs the Directorist plugin installed; it's restricted to Facebook and Google, so don't expect other networks.
Common questions before enabling social login
Can I use it without Directorist?
No. It's an add-on for the Directorist plugin and only makes sense inside a directory built with it.
Can I offer only Google or only Facebook?
Yes. You can use both networks or either one on its own.
What do I need from each social network?
The App ID of the corresponding application. It's the only piece of data the setup asks for.
Does it support other networks, such as X or LinkedIn?
No: the login is designed for Facebook and Google.
Each social network asks for its own App ID
Before enabling the plugin, decide which networks you want to offer and have the App ID for each one at hand.
Once it's configured, test the login as if you were a new visitor, from an incognito window. If something fails, try debugging mode and turn it off when everything works.
