About Divi Dynamic Content Extended

A fact written twenty times is a change you will make twenty times

Your business phone number appears in the header, on the contact page, in three buttons and in the footer. The day it changes, you open every module and fix it. If you miss one, your site says two different things and nobody tells you.

A fact used in many modules belongs in one place, and Divi can only read it from there if the module field accepts dynamic content.

Divi Dynamic Content Extended widens the list of Divi fields that accept dynamic content and adds the values stored in ACF PRO, Meta Box and Pods options pages. When you change the value on its options page, every module that uses it updates.

More dynamic fields and more data sources

The extension works on three fronts.

  • Module fields that did not accept dynamic content before: the percent in Bar Counters, the number in Circle Counter and Number Counter, the email in Contact Form, the images in Gallery, the video and Webm in Video, the product in the WooCommerce modules, and in all modules the icon, color, CSS ID and CSS class fields.
  • Options pages: the fields of an ACF PRO options page, a Meta Box settings page (with the MB Settings Page extension) or Pods custom settings pages show up in the dynamic content menu.
  • Post data Divi did not offer: author website and email, post slug, last updated date, full content and plain-text content, post status (published, draft, private or scheduled), and the featured image alt text and title.

It works with Divi, with Extra and with the Divi Builder plugin.

One contact record for the whole site

This combination is ours and should be tested before publishing it. With an ACF PRO options page you can store the phone number, the contact email and the brand color. In the contact form module, the email field takes its value from that page, and in a module with a color field, the color also comes from there. If the email that receives the messages changes later, you edit it once.

The featured image is another case. With the alt text and title available as dynamic fields, an image module can reuse what you already wrote on the post.

What it needs to work

Each data source requires its own plugin: ACF PRO for ACF options pages, Meta Box with the MB Settings Page extension for Meta Box settings, and Pods with its custom settings pages already created. Without the matching plugin, those fields have nowhere to come from.

The extension sticks to the fields and values it lists. Among its features there is no options page builder: the pages and their fields are created in ACF PRO, Meta Box or Pods, and here they are only connected to Divi modules.

Connecting a field in the builder

The safest order is to create the data first and connect it afterwards:

  1. Install and activate the plugin and, depending on the source you will use, ACF PRO, Meta Box with MB Settings Page, or Pods.
  2. Create the options page with its fields and fill in the values. In Pods, set up the custom settings pages first.
  3. Open a page in the Divi builder and enter the module whose field you want to connect.
  4. Choose the field's dynamic content icon and select the value in the menu, next to Divi's own fields.
  5. Change the value on the options page and check that every connected module updates.

Plugins that work with Divi and its fields

If your data lives in Meta Box, Meta Box Settings Page is the extension that creates the settings pages this one reads. The same vendor offers Divi Booster. Among the plugins for Divi there is also Divi Loop Extender, and for custom fields Advanced Custom Fields PRO.
