About Easy Digital Downloads - Variable Pricing Switcher
A customer reaches checkout with the Silver license and, looking at the summary, starts to wonder: wouldn't Gold suit them better? If changing it means going back to the product page, finding the option and starting over, they are more likely to abandon the purchase. This plugin aims to avoid exactly that moment.
The person doubting at checkout is not the one doubting on the product page
If you sell a product with several price levels (for example Bronze, Silver and Gold licenses) and the levels are similar to each other, it is normal for buyers not to be sure of their choice until they see the total in front of them. Many change their minds at that point, and it is the worst place to force them to leave. Easy Digital Downloads - Variable Pricing Switcher lets them change the price option without leaving the checkout screen.
A purchase with doubts, step by step
- Step 1: the customer adds the product with one price option, for example the middle license.
- Step 2: they arrive at the checkout page and review what they are going to pay. The price switcher appears here.
- Step 3: if they change their mind, they select another price option from that same screen, without going back or getting distracted by other pages.
- Step 4: they complete the payment with the chosen option.
The plugin does not create the price levels: it works on products that already have variable prices in Easy Digital Downloads. If you sell a product with a single price, there is nothing to switch.
Turn it on only for the products that deserve it
The switcher is enabled product by product. That is an advantage: you can use it on products with similar levels, where doubt is most likely, and leave it off on those with an obvious difference between options.
For single-product stores: remove the cart from the checkout page
If your store sells just one thing, or you do not need a shopping cart, the plugin adds the option "Disable cart on checkout page", which removes the cart from that page. Combined with the switcher, it leaves a simpler screen: the buyer sees their option, can change it and pays. If your store sells several products at once and you want customers to manage their cart at checkout, do not enable that option.
What Variable Pricing Switcher offers and what not to expect
- It is an add-on for Easy Digital Downloads: it does not work without it.
- It does not persuade the customer to choose a particular level or explain the differences between them; that depends on how you describe your options.
- It does not add discounts or offers for switching levels.
