About Easy Updates Manager Premium
Updating blindly or never updating: the two expensive mistakes
Logging into each site to see what is pending eats up hours, and letting everything update on its own can break a plugin in the middle of the afternoon. Easy Updates Manager Premium exists for the middle ground: deciding what updates, when and with what safety net.
What Easy Updates Manager Premium controls day to day
You can turn automatic updates on or off separately for WordPress core (major, minor and development releases), plugins, themes and translations, and choose between all of them or only the ones you select. You can also block everything, remove the browser nag, hide the WordPress version in the footer and restrict which users can configure or run updates.
Every update, manual or automatic, is logged with the version it came from. That helps with debugging and with rolling back when something goes wrong.
How each type of buyer would use it
Agency or freelancer with several client sites
White label hides notices and changes how the plugin appears to the client. Logs can be exported by date range, printed or saved as CSV or JSON, to hand over a report of what was updated. External notifications arrive by email or in channels such as Slack, and the webhook lets you connect it to third-party services.
Whoever runs a multisite network
It supports multisite natively. It helps keep sensitive plugins out of the routine and concentrate updates on the scheduled day, with no surprises in between.
Owner of a single site who does not want to watch it
With automatic updates turned on for whatever you choose, you do not need to log in to check what is pending, and the log tells you what changed and from which version.
Developer with custom code
If you work with your own themes and plugins, disabling updates prevents your code from being overwritten. Version control protection skips updates for plugins and themes that are under version control.
The safety features in the Premium version
- Safe updates: it only updates if the plugin is compatible with your WordPress version and your server's PHP.
- Delayed updates: it holds back automatic updates for a number of days you set, to see whether the new release causes problems.
- Scheduling: pick the moment to reduce downtime.
- Auto-update protection: if something fails, it alerts you by email and tries to fix it on its own.
- UpdraftPlus: it works with its automatic backup before the update.
- Anonymous requests: it avoids sending nonessential data to the WordPress API.
- Unmaintained plugins: it detects the ones that have disappeared from the official directory or are out of date.
You can also get a weekly or monthly report of what is pending, which is useful if you have disabled updates. Logs can be searched by user, theme or plugin, and you can schedule their cleanup so the database does not grow.
Frequently asked questions
Is all of this in the free version?
No. The free version covers automatic updates, choosing what updates and the logs. Scheduling, safe mode, delays, white label, webhook, external notifications and log export are Premium.
Does it work with plugins that are not in the official directory?
Yes, if they follow the WordPress way of receiving updates, although it depends on their source.
Does it replace a backup?
No. It works with UpdraftPlus, but you need that plugin to get the automatic backup.
Can I move my settings to another site?
Yes, they can be exported and imported to take them to another installation.
No notes for blocked plugins
When you disable updates for a plugin, there is nowhere to write down why. If you manage many sites, keep that reason somewhere else. The plugin does not replace manually checking a critical plugin after updating it either.
