A personal blog wins readers through consistency, not design
People who start a personal blog often spend weeks tweaking headers and colors, and then publish little. A theme like this should take design decisions out of your way so your time goes into writing. Flexblog is built on that idea: a simple, clean and modern design that you adjust from the WordPress Customizer, seeing changes live.
Three listing formats to decide how your blog is read
Flexblog offers blog layouts in standard, grid and list, plus an option showing the first post in full followed by a grid.
The site can be full width or boxed with the width set in pixels, with a left or right sidebar, and specific pages can have a different layout. The header can be fixed or static.
Flexblog and post formats: from quotes to audio
It supports the WordPress post formats: standard, gallery, link, image, quote, video and audio. If your blog mixes text with photos, videos or snippets you like, each format has its own presentation. It also includes a featured posts carousel with several options, related posts, breadcrumbs and three types of pagination.
Colors, logos and details you change without touching code
- Live color options and custom background images.
- Standard logo, retina version and mini logo.
- Menu with multi-level submenus.
- Social media icons in the header and footer.
- Fields for the copyright text, custom CSS and Google Analytics code.
- Option to hide or show most elements.
If the settings don't cover something, a child theme example is included and the code is commented, which helps if you later hire someone for tweaks.
Sharing and subscriptions: just enough, with caveats
The share buttons include Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Google+, LinkedIn, Tumblr and Reddit. Google+ no longer exists, so don't count on that button as a real channel. For Instagram it has its own widget with the feed in the footer, and it is compatible with Contact Form 7 and the MailChimp for WP plugin.
What it doesn't solve on its own: shop, bookings and memberships
It is a theme built for writing, not for selling. Here is what it already covers and what you will need to handle separately:
- Already solved: blog layouts, post formats, carousel, related posts, social sharing, translation with .po, .mo and .pot files (WPML friendly), SEO-minded markup.
- With another plugin: forms (Contact Form 7), mailing lists (MailChimp for WP), a shop or courses if you ever want them.
- By hand or with a professional: any design that goes beyond the available settings, and the content of legal pages.
