About GeoDirectory Events Tickets Marketplace
Your events directory shows the event and gives away the sale
An events directory drives plenty of people to the date, the venue and the poster, and right at the moment of payment it sends them to another website. The ticket is sold on someone else's marketplace, which keeps its commission. GeoDirectory Events Tickets Marketplace closes that gap: the sale happens on your own WordPress site.
It works for two profiles: the administrator of a directory who wants to turn it into a ticket marketplace in the style of Eventbrite or TicketMaster, and anyone who wants to sell tickets of any kind from their website, for a single event or for many.
A concert from start to finish with GeoDirectory Events Tickets Marketplace
Imagine a venue that publishes a concert in your directory. This is the journey:
- Publishing: the organizer, as the owner of the event listing, can create the tickets for that event.
- Sale: the public buys the ticket on your website, not on an external platform.
- Ticket in hand: the buyer downloads and prints their ticket, which carries a QR code.
- At the door: the organizer scans the QR and checks the ticket's status. Once validated, they can redeem it so it can't be used twice. Check in the demo which device makes scanning comfortable, because the door is where the system either works or doesn't.
- Wrap-up: the organizer sees basic reports for their own events and you, as administrator, see the reports for all events combined.
Mind your expectations: the organizer's reports are basic, so don't expect an advanced analytics dashboard.
Questions before opening ticket sales
Can I charge a commission on every ticket sold?
Yes. As the site owner you decide how much commission you charge on each ticket sold through your directory.
Can other users sell tickets or only me?
Event listing owners can: they create their tickets and sell them from your website. You can also use it just to sell your own tickets.
Can the same ticket be used twice?
It shouldn't be: after scanning and validating the QR, the organizer redeems the ticket and it is marked as used.
Is it useful if I only have one event?
Yes. It is designed for a single event as well as for many, and it avoids paying commissions to an external marketplace.
It needs GeoDirectory as a base and doesn't work alone
It is an extension of the GeoDirectory plugin, so without that plugin installed it does nothing. It also adds ticket sales, not the directory. If you want the marketplace model, start from an events directory that is already built.
The commission is yours, but so is the relationship with the organizer
Setting a percentage is the easy part. The hard part is convincing an organizer to sell with you instead of on a well-known platform: your argument is the service, the visibility inside your directory and clear terms. Before recruiting organizers, check in the demo how payment for each sale is handled and agree with them on what share each party keeps.
