About Gravity Forms Dropbox
When a form collects files (résumés, floor plans, product photos, receipts), they usually end up on the WordPress server and someone has to download them one by one to move them to where the work actually happens. Gravity Forms Dropbox cuts out that step: it sends the submitted files straight to your Dropbox account.
The file that matters doesn't live on your website
The people who install this usually have a team that already works in Dropbox: a design studio, an accounting firm, a real estate agency, an association that receives paperwork. For them the shared folder is the workplace, and the WordPress media library is a middleman storage nobody wants to check. What this plugin changes is the destination: the form submission leaves the file where the team already looks for it.
Two different uses: send to your Dropbox or let users attach their own
Sending uploaded files to your account
Files are uploaded to Dropbox the moment the form is submitted. You can set a specific folder or build dynamic paths with data from the form itself, so each submission ends up sorted by project, person or form type without anyone moving it by hand.
A field to attach files from the visitor's Dropbox
You can also add a Dropbox field to the form so users can choose files from their own account, without searching for them on their device. It's useful when your clients already keep their documents there, because submitting becomes more convenient and they are less likely to abandon the form.
Conditional uploads: you only keep what interests you
The plugin takes advantage of Gravity Forms conditional logic. You can decide that files go to Dropbox only if a certain condition is met. That way you avoid filling the folder with attachments you will never look at.
Your team's folders and permissions are up to you
It helps to be clear about what it solves and what it doesn't:
- It solves: automatic sending of files to Dropbox, fixed or dynamic folder, a field to attach from Dropbox and upload conditions.
- You cover: the folder structure in Dropbox and who can access it.
- You cover: the upload fields and the form itself, which depend on Gravity Forms.
- You cover: the privacy policy if you collect documents from third parties: if they contain personal or sensitive data, review how you store them and who can see them.
It is an add-on: it doesn't work without Gravity Forms and you need a Dropbox account of your own. It doesn't replace a document management system or a backup system.
Frequently asked questions about Gravity Forms Dropbox
Can I choose which folder the files are saved in?
Yes. You can specify a particular folder or create dynamic paths from the data filled in on the form.
Can users upload files from their own Dropbox?
Yes, with the Dropbox field you add to the form. The user selects their files without leaving it.
Can I send only some submissions to Dropbox?
Yes, by using Gravity Forms conditional logic so the upload happens only when the conditions you define are met.
Does it work without Gravity Forms?
No. It is a Gravity Forms add-on and depends on it.
Do I have to download the files by hand?
No: they are sent to Dropbox when the form is submitted, so you don't need to download them to move them.
