About Green Popups Plugin for WordPress

Built for anyone collecting leads who doesn't want to slow the site down

Popups have a bad reputation for a reason: most are a generic box that shows up at the wrong moment and gets closed without being read. Green Popups (formerly Layered Popups) is aimed at people who need that window to do a specific job, such as capturing subscribers, asking for a payment or sending visitors to another page, without having to write any code.

It suits you if you run a blog, a store or a services site and already use (or want to use) an email marketing tool or a CRM. It doesn't suit you if you're looking for a full forms plugin with entry management, or a cookie notice popup: that isn't what it does.

How a multi-layer popup is built in Green Popups

Each popup is assembled in a drag-and-drop editor, with no code. A popup can have as many layers as you need, and there are more than 20 element types to combine: text, images, buttons, form fields and more. You can also start from one of the more than 200 ready-made templates.

There is no limit to the number of popups you can create, so you can have a different message for each section of the site.

Choosing the exact moment: from a click to AdBlock detection

The difference between an annoying popup and a useful one is often when it appears. Here are several triggers:

  • On page load: for notices or promotions.
  • On scroll: when the reader has already made progress through the article.
  • Exit intent: when the pointer moves toward the top of the browser window.
  • On inactivity: after a period in which the user does nothing.
  • On click: on any element you choose.
  • On AdBlock detection: to show a message to people who use it.

You can also limit where it appears: posts, pages, products or custom content types, filtered by taxonomies, dates or user roles. A geolocation filter lets you show popups depending on the visitor's country; it integrates with the Geolocation IP Detection plugin and with ipstack.com.

Popups that don't look like popups: inline, in widgets and with link locking

You can insert it into a page with a shortcode, place it as a sidebar widget or add it automatically at the start or end of every post. For anyone offering a download or a resource, the link locker limits access to certain links until the visitor submits the form.

Connected forms: email, CRM, payments and SMS

The form is submitted via AJAX and can connect to a wide list of newsletter and CRM services, including Mailchimp, ActiveCampaign, HubSpot, MailerLite, ConvertKit, Brevo (SendinBlue), GetResponse and Zoho CRM, plus Zapier to link with other tools. You can ask for double opt-in of the email address, send notifications and confirmation emails with conditional logic, and validate the address by checking MX records or using services such as Kickbox or Clearout.

It also supports payments through providers such as PayPal, Stripe or Mollie, SMS alerts with Twilio or Nexmo, your own JavaScript code on popup events and saving data to an external MySQL table.

If you collect personal data with these forms, check what you must tell visitors under the regulations in your country.

What to know before installing Green Popups

It is a powerful tool, and that means a learning curve: with so many triggers, targeting rules and integrations, the sensible approach is to start with a single popup and a single connection. Each external service (CRM, payments, SMS, email verification) requires your own account with that service; the plugin only acts as a bridge.
