About Hide Price and Add to Cart Button

When a public price hurts more than it helps

Anyone selling to businesses, to wholesalers or custom-made products knows that a price visible to everyone creates problems: a competitor copies it, a customer with an agreed rate sees a figure that isn't theirs, and someone who needs something personalized is put off by an amount that doesn't fit their case. In a business with different rates per customer, the price on the website is the first thing argued over in a negotiation, even if nobody asks.

Hide Price and Add to Cart Button solves that in WooCommerce: it removes the price, the add to cart button or both, depending on who visits the store.

Hide Price and Add to Cart Button works with rules, not with a single switch

Each rule combines four decisions:

  • Who sees it: logged-out visitors, registered customers or specific user roles.
  • Where it applies: specific products or categories, and also specific countries.
  • What is hidden: the price, the button or both.
  • What appears instead: custom text in place of the price; in place of the button, a contact form or your own button linking to the page you choose.

You can create several rules at once. For example: one that hides prices from anyone who hasn't logged in, and another that, for wholesale customers who are already logged in, replaces the button in a category with a contact form.

What to know before installing it

The plugin only touches the price and the button: the product page stays published and visible. Nor is it a quoting system. The form that replaces the button is a Contact Form 7 form, so you need that plugin if you want that option. If you want the opposite (show the price and hide only the button), that is also possible.

Four stores, four different uses

  • Online catalog: you show products with no price or purchase option and share the store as a showcase.
  • Prices only after logging in: useful if each country or role has different rates and you don't want to show every visitor the wrong figure.
  • Custom products: no price on the product page, and a form for the customer to describe what they need.
  • Countries you don't ship to: you hide the price or button for those countries and keep it visible where you do deliver.

Questions from people about to set up the rules

Can I hide prices from logged-out visitors and also treat wholesalers differently?

Yes. You do it with two rules: one for logged-out visitors and another for the wholesale role, for example with a form in place of the button.

Can I apply it to just one category?

Yes, rules can be limited to specific products or categories.

Does it help me avoid selling to certain countries?

You can hide the price and button for specific countries and leave them visible everywhere else.

Does it replace a quote plugin?

No. It hides and redirects to contact; if you need to manage quotes, you will need another tool.

Rules get tested with a logged-out session and a wholesale one

A badly thought-out rule can leave a product without a price for someone who should see it, or with a button for someone who shouldn't. Before publishing, check each rule as a logged-out visitor, as a registered customer and with each role you use. If two rules affect the same product, check which one prevails. And look at how the replacement text or the form looks on the product page: it is what visitors will see when they arrive without a price.
