About HivePress Opening Hours

A directory that doesn't say whether a business is open sends visitors to a closed door

Someone searching for a restaurant, a pharmacy or a repair shop from their phone almost never wants the best one: they want one they can go to right now. If your directory makes them open listing after listing only to find out it closes at two, they will most likely go somewhere else and not come back.

HivePress Opening Hours adds an opening-hours schedule to each listing and a filter to see only the businesses that are open at this moment. It is an extension for HivePress, not a standalone plugin.

And there is something worth knowing before you start: the filter is only as reliable as the hours each owner enters. An Open now that lies is worse than not having one, so the real value of the extension depends on vendors keeping their hours up to date.

Three situations where HivePress Opening Hours changes the search

If you run a local business directory

For bars, clinics, shops or repair shops, urgency rules. With the extension, your visitors stop comparing listings blindly and can narrow the results to what is actually open for business. That makes your directory useful for last-minute decisions too, not only for planning ahead.

If you are the owner publishing your listing

When you create or edit the listing, a dedicated section called Opening Hours appears, where you state when your business or service is open. You don't need to write the hours in the description, or ask the administrator to change them every time something varies.

If you are the visitor in a hurry

The Open now checkbox sits among the main filters of the listing page, so it can be switched on with a single click. There is no need to dig into advanced filters or remember when each place closes.

What HivePress Opening Hours adds to your site

  • Hours on the listing page: visitors see them directly on the listing page.
  • Hours section in the listing form: each vendor manages their own independently.
  • Open now filter: limits results to the listings that are open at the moment of the search.

These are three simple, well-defined pieces.

It needs HivePress as a base and doesn't handle bookings

The extension doesn't work on its own: it requires HivePress to be installed and a directory built with it. It also doesn't let anyone book or request an appointment; it shows hours and filters by what is open, nothing more. If your visitors expect to schedule a time slot, you will need another solution. If your businesses have holiday closures, split shifts or several time zones, check in the demo how those cases are displayed before deciding.

Frequently asked questions about HivePress Opening Hours

Does it work without HivePress? No. It is an extension that is added to a site built with HivePress.

Who enters the hours? Whoever publishes the listing, from the Opening Hours section of the listing edit form.

Can visitors search only for what is open? Yes, with the Open now checkbox that appears in the main filters of the listing page.

Does it allow bookings or appointments? No. Its job is to show the hours and filter by the listings that are open.

Before launching your directory: who keeps the hours up to date

The extension provides the tool, but accuracy comes from your vendors. Ask them to fill in the hours when they publish and to review them when the season changes. That way, the Open now filter will be something your visitors can trust and not a promise that sometimes fails.
