About Interactive Geo Maps PRO
Maps by region, not by pin
Google Maps solves one thing well: showing where a point is. What it does not solve is colouring a territory. If you want to shade the provinces where you have distributors, the countries you have visited, or states carrying different data, there is no tool for it, and the usual way out is a hand-edited image that has to be remade every time something changes.
Interactive Geo Maps works the other way round: it starts from vector maps by region, and pins are the extra.
The maps
More than 250, including a world map, continental maps, US state maps divided by county, and individual country maps worldwide. It is built on the amCharts library.
What changes in Pro
The free version colours with one colour for active regions and another for inactive ones, round markers in a single colour and size, and clicking only opens a URL. That is enough for a simple map.
Pro is what enables what people usually actually need:
- Individual colouring per region and per marker, which is what makes a data map possible: darker where sales are higher.
- Custom images and vector icons as markers.
- Text labels and connecting lines, for routes or relationships between points.
- Advanced zoom: reset, double-click and mouse wheel.
- Multiple click actions: open a URL, a lightbox, or display content.
Where the data comes from
This is the part that avoids manual maintenance. It connects to Google Sheets, JSON files, WordPress posts, categories and tags, and Advanced Custom Fields.
In practice: the map can be fed from a spreadsheet somebody else updates, or from the site's own posts, rather than being edited every time.
What it is used for
Travel blogs with visited countries linked to their articles, businesses showing offices, stores or distributors, and data visualisation by territory.
