About Kadence Pro

A free theme that falls short just when the project gets complicated

The free Kadence theme covers the basics, but the day comes when you need a second header for a landing page, a different footer on the blog or a block that only certain visitors see. Then you start pasting code into functions.php or installing a plugin for every patch. Kadence Pro is the add-on that brings those pieces together inside the customizer itself.

It helps to know this from the start: whoever installs it is rarely building a new site, but fixing one that has already grown. What costs the most at that point is not a nice design, but consistency across dozens of pages that used to be edited by hand.

Kadence Pro needs the Kadence theme to work

It is a plugin, not a theme. It is installed from the WordPress dashboard and requires the free Kadence theme to be active. With any other theme it has nothing to hook into. Once active, the modules are switched on or off one by one from Appearance > Kadence, so you only load what you are going to use.

The modules that change how you build the site

  • Header Addons: adds 20 elements to the header builder (for example account, contact, dividers or search).
  • Conditional Headers: lets you create extra headers that appear only under the conditions you define.
  • Ultimate Menu: mega menus, highlight tags, icons and more menu options.
  • Hooked Elements: inserts content anywhere on the site conditionally. It is the basis for templating with Kadence Elements, for example your own 404 page, a single post template or an archive one.
  • Header/Footer Scripts: a place in the customizer to add header and footer scripts without touching files.
  • WooCommerce Addons: extra options in the store customizer, such as opening the side cart when a product is added or swapping the image on hover in product archives.
  • Infinite Scroll: infinite scrolling on archive pages.
  • Color Palette Switch: a palette switch to offer a dark mode.
  • Local gravatars: serves gravatars from your own server to help performance.
  • Archive custom settings: your own display settings for each taxonomy, including custom backgrounds on archive titles.

What it does not do: it is not a page builder and it does not bring demos or page templates on its own. It extends the theme, and the store part only makes sense if you use WooCommerce.

Frequently asked questions before installing it

Does it work with any theme?

No. It needs the free Kadence theme to be active.

Do I have to activate all the modules?

No. They are activated individually from the Kadence dashboard, and anything you do not need can stay off.

Can I have a different header on certain pages?

Yes, with Conditional Headers you create additional headers that are shown according to conditions.

Is it useful for a WooCommerce store?

Yes, it adds options to the customizer, such as the side cart that opens when a product is added. If you do not sell online, that module adds nothing for you.

The modules are switched on one by one from Appearance > Kadence

After installing the plugin with the Kadence theme already active, go to Appearance > Kadence and switch on only what your project needs. A good order: Hooked Elements first if you are going to create your own templates, then the header modules, and leave the store or infinite scroll modules for last. That way you can check the effect of each one on the site before adding the next.
