About Kamisaha – Anime Streaming Wordpress Theme

An anime catalogue only fills up if the data comes from outside

Adding one series by hand is fifteen fields: original title, alternative title, studio, year, season, genres, episode count, synopsis, cover art. Multiplied by two hundred series, it is a project abandoned at number twelve.

Kamisaha solves that by pulling data from MyAnimeList, the sector's reference database. It is a minimalist theme, with light and dark modes, customisable with live preview.

What it brings

  • Data from MyAnimeList, filling in each series page without typing it.
  • Catalogue and episode structure, with the navigation this kind of site needs.
  • Light and dark modes, which on a site consumed at night is not a whim.
  • Light, responsive design, customisable from the WordPress customiser itself.

The project that genuinely works with this theme

Worth saying, because it is the part almost nobody puts forward: an anime database and community site is a perfectly legitimate project and fits beautifully here.

Series pages with data and synopses, a seasonal release calendar, your own reviews, watchlists, recommendations, articles, community. All of that is supported by the data integration the theme ships and depends on hosting not one single video. It is a type of site with enormous traffic, monetisable with ordinary advertising and one nobody is going to try to shut down.

If the plan is hosting the video

Then everything changes, and it is worth being clear before buying. Anime is licensed by territory to specific platforms, and the rights holders are among the most active in the audiovisual sector at issuing takedowns.

The usual consequences, in order of appearance: notices to the host and account suspension, advertising platforms and payment gateways blocking you, and the domain being deindexed. On top of that, video consumes bandwidth that most shared hosting excludes in its terms.

If you are going to stream, make it your own work, licensed, public domain or from authors who authorise it.

Alternatives in the catalogue

Within anime there are two distinct projects and each has its theme.

If you are going for a manga reader rather than video, MangaReader is built for it: chapters, pages and reading navigation, which is a very different structure from episodes.

If you are going for an anime catalogue, Kiranime is the sector's other option, with its own approach to listings and seasons.

And if the project is video generally rather than anime specifically, DooPlay is the most widespread for film and series catalogues, with a large community behind it, which on this kind of theme matters for support.

Frequently asked questions

Where does it get the series data from?
From MyAnimeList, which avoids filling in each entry by hand.

Does it work for a database with no video?
Yes, and it is one of the uses where it performs best: catalogue, reviews, calendar and community.

Does it include video hosting?
No. The theme is the presentation. Hosting and video delivery are separate.

Does it have a dark mode?
Yes, it ships with light and dark styles.
