About Lawn Care – Lawn Mowing & Landscape WordPress Theme
Mowing lawns is a route business, not a customer business
It is what decides whether this company makes money, and it appears on no website in the sector.
A lawn gets cut every week or fortnight, always. That is wonderful: recurring, predictable income all season. But the margin is not decided by the price per garden: it is decided by how long the van takes to reach the next one.
Twenty gardens on three streets of the same neighbourhood is an excellent business. The same twenty spread across the city is a crew spending half the day inside the van, with the same fuel, the same paid hours and considerably less revenue.
Which is why the website's aim is not getting customers: it is getting customers where you already are. And that changes how it has to be built.
Lawn Care is a WordPress theme for lawn mowing and landscaping companies.
What it contributes
- Sector structure, with the service pages already built.
- A focus on mowing and maintenance, which is the recurring work.
- Responsive design, which matters here because the enquiry arrives from a phone.
How a route website gets built
A page per neighbourhood or estate you work. Not a list of areas at the bottom: a page of its own, with different content and the streets or estates named. It is what puts you in local searches, which here are almost all of them.
Say you are already there. "We are on this estate on Tuesdays" is the most powerful sentence you can write, for two reasons: it tells the neighbour you already work with people nearby, and it lets you offer a better price because you add no travel.
Price by size, published. In bands: up to a hundred metres, up to three hundred. People want to know whether it fits their budget before calling, and publishing it filters out whoever it does not.
A block discount, stated on the site. If two neighbours sign up together, a better price for both. It is the most profitable commercial mechanism in this business, because each new customer on a street where you already work costs almost nothing.
What has to be settled besides the cutting
The season. From November to February the grass does not grow and revenue falls off a cliff. The ones who survive well sell something else in those months: pruning, leaf clearing, irrigation servicing, snow clearing depending where you are. Worth the website saying so from the start, so the annual contract is no surprise.
Clippings removal. It is what causes most arguments and hardly anybody clarifies it. If you take the clippings away it costs more, and if you leave them that has to be said beforehand.
Insurance. A stone thrown by a strimmer breaks a window or something worse. Saying you carry public liability is not showing off in this trade.
Requirements
It needs WordPress. Monthly fee billing, the visit route and the customer area get solved separately.
Alternatives in the catalogue
If your weight is on project landscaping (designing and building a garden, a big one-off job) rather than weekly maintenance, they are two different businesses and there are more suitable themes: Landscop, Gardener and Landco.
If you also do cleaning or other recurring household services, FastPro covers that ground, and it is worth seeing how Poolax frames selling a contract rather than a one-off service, because the model is identical.
And the pieces that turn this into a subscription business: WooCommerce Subscriptions collects automatically each month, Self Service Dashboard lets the customer pause or change their plan without calling you, which on a seasonal service is welcome, and MotoPress Appointment Booking organises the visits.
For quoting by area, Cost Calculator Builder gives the number on the spot.
Frequently asked questions
What decides the margin in this business?
Route density. Twenty gardens together pay far better than twenty spread out.
How do I get customers where I already work?
With a page per neighbourhood and by saying which day you are there. It is the sentence that converts most.
Should prices be published?
Yes, in size bands. It filters out whoever cannot afford it and avoids the awkward call.
What do I do from November to February?
Sell something else: pruning, leaves, irrigation. And say so on the site from the start.
Does it include fee billing?
No. The theme presents the service; the subscription comes from a plugin.
And clippings removal?
Whether it is included has to be said. It causes most arguments and hardly anybody clarifies it.
