About LearnPress Assignment Add-on
Courses graded by hand: who this add-on makes sense for
Running an online course and receiving assignments by email, as loose PDFs with names like "final_v3", ends up being an administrative problem: nobody knows what was submitted, who is missing or what grade each student got. This add-on moves that workflow into the LearnPress course itself.
It suits you if you already have an LMS built with LearnPress and your students must hand in work: essays, reports, projects or exercises that someone has to read and score. It is not for you if you want to assess with multiple-choice questions that grade themselves: that is what quizzes are for. Here a person reviews the work, and you should keep that in mind before promising grading deadlines to your students.
It also does not work on its own: it is a LearnPress add-on, so you need that plugin installed.
An assignment the student understands before starting
The part most often neglected when setting a task is explaining it. The add-on lets you add one or several assignments to any course section, each with its title, detailed instructions and specific requirements. You can also set a character limit for written answers and the maximum score.
That way the assignment sits within the natural flow of the course, right where it belongs, and not as a separate email the student may lose.
Upload a file or write the answer on the site
There are two ways to submit, and you can choose the one that fits each activity:
- Uploading files: PDF, DOC, ZIP, images and other formats, with format and size limits that you configure.
- Writing in a built-in text editor: useful for short answers or reflections that do not justify a separate document.
If your course asks for heavy work, such as design or video projects, set the size limit carefully and remember that it also depends on what your hosting allows.
Deadlines, retakes and a minimum passing grade
Each assignment has its own controls:
- Start and end dates for the submission window.
- Maximum number of retakes per student.
- Maximum score and minimum passing grade.
Retakes deserve a conscious decision. Allowing several gives room to improve, but multiplies your grading workload.
Grading from the WordPress dashboard
Submissions are managed from the admin area: you see what each student has sent, give the grade according to your criteria and write a personalized comment. Scores sync automatically with the LearnPress gradebook, so you do not have to copy them by hand somewhere else.
What it does not do is grade for you: there is no automatic scoring of the content, only the comparison of the grade with the minimum you defined.
