About LearnPress Collections Add-on
An online academy with fifteen or twenty courses often ends up with a flat catalog: everything in one list, with no hint of where to start. A new student doesn't know whether the intermediate course suits them before the basic one, and many leave without buying or drop out halfway. Collections Add-on for LearnPress groups courses into collections and turns them into learning paths with a clear order.
Whoever sells courses sells a path, not a list
What the student wants is not "a photography course" but to end up taking photos like a professional. That journey is usually spread across several courses, and if nobody puts it in order, they give up. LearnPress Collections Add-on brings that order to your site: you gather related courses and tell the student where to start and what comes next.
Collections and paths: two types with different behavior
The plugin distinguishes between two types, and it helps to be clear about them before creating anything:
- Learning path: a step-by-step sequence with a prominent "Start Now" button. The courses follow the order you set in the admin, not newest first.
- Collection: a looser grouping, with sorting, pagination and grid or list view. The order you give it in the admin is its default order on the site.
The type is chosen directly from the Collection and Learning Path cards, and in the listing each card shows which type it is, with different actions (view path or view collection).
How it is managed and where it is shown
Everything is created and edited from the WordPress dashboard. To add courses there is a window called Course Bank, with search and pagination, useful when the catalog is large. You can also decide how many collections are shown per page and change the collection slug.
To show them outside their own page, the plugin includes blocks for Gutenberg and Elementor, so you can place a path on the homepage or a landing page. The detail page shows data such as duration and instructors.
What you need to keep in mind
- It is an add-on: it needs LearnPress installed and active, it does not work on its own.
- Trash and deletion are not the same: if you send a course or collection to the trash, the relationships are kept; when you delete them permanently, they are removed.
- If your theme overrides old templates, they will keep using their previous markup, so the new look may not show there.
- If custom developments query the courses of a collection, they must read them with the plugin's own method and not with a direct metadata query, because it is now stored as a single JSON row.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use it to sell course bundles?
That is not its purpose. It groups and orders courses to guide the student; it does not create a joint paid product. For that you would need another add-on or your payment gateway.
Can I put a path on the homepage?
Yes, with the Gutenberg or Elementor blocks.
Can the same course be in several collections?
The plugin manages relationships between courses and collections in both directions, but if you need a specific course to appear in several at once, check it in the demo.
Can I change the order of the courses in a path?
Yes, you set the order in the admin and that is what the student sees.
Decide first what is a path and what is a collection
Before loading content, sort your courses: those with a logical order (basic, intermediate, advanced) go into paths; those that only share a topic (all the marketing ones, for example) go into collections. Changing the type later is possible from the cards, but you will save revisions if you think it through from the start. Then check in the demo how the detail page looks and whether your theme respects the new design.
