About Lineago – Genealogy WordPress Theme
A family tree usually lives in a PDF nobody opens, a spreadsheet with impossible columns, or an account on someone else's service that may change its terms one day. When you finally want to share it with the family, nobody knows where the good version is. Lineago tries to solve that by moving everything to a WordPress site of your own, with a clean design built for this subject.
Lineago and the family memory nobody writes down in time
Whoever builds a genealogy website rarely has a technical problem: the problem is time. The data is in the heads of the elders, in undated photos and in conversations nobody recorded. A site like this is never finished, it grows person by person, so it matters more that adding a relative is as simple as writing a post than that the home page looks spectacular. Lineago goes that way: each member is managed much like a blog post.
How family members are managed
Each relative is a content item of their own. The title is their name, the featured image is their portrait and the text is their biography. There are also specific fields, such as date of birth, parents and partners. With those relations, the theme automatically generates the family trees, so you don't have to draw branches by hand.
Besides the tree and the people's profiles, the theme includes photo albums, a genealogical history section and a blog to tell anecdotes or family news.
Design, accessibility and adaptation
- Your own color scheme: you pick the main colors from the admin in a few clicks, or edit the SCSS file if you want control over every color.
- Mobile and desktop friendly: the design is responsive.
- Block editor: it is optimized for Gutenberg, so custom pages are built with the native editor.
- Translatable with RTL support: it includes translation files and switches on its own to right-to-left writing if the site language is RTL. Useful if the family is spread across several countries.
- Modular content types: you can disable the ones you don't use to keep the admin clean.
The demo photos are not included
It is worth setting expectations here. Lineago ships with demo content to recreate the preview, but the images of that demo are not included for copyright reasons. Your site will start with the structure, not with the nice photos you see. What the theme solves and what is up to you:
- The theme solves: member profiles, trees generated from relations, albums, blog, colors, translation and code with a child theme included.
- Up to you: gathering and scanning the photographs, writing the biographies, entering dates and relations, and deciding which relatives to publish.
- With a professional: code changes beyond what the child theme and CSS allow.
If the site includes data about living people, especially minors, think first about what you publish and with whose permission.
For those who want to touch the code
The code is commented and everything shown on the public side can be overridden from a child theme, which is included. It is PHP 8 compatible. If you don't code, you don't need it to use the theme, but it leaves room if you later want custom adjustments.
