About MainWP Boilerplate Extension
One privacy policy, a different client on every site
When you manage a network of sites, the boring pages are the ones that get neglected most: privacy policy, About Us, terms of use, support policy. They get copied from one site to another, the company name is changed by hand and, over time, each copy says something slightly different. Nobody reviews them until a client asks about them.
MainWP Boilerplate Extension tackles that mess: you write the page once, with placeholders (tokens) instead of the data that changes, and you distribute it across your Child sites.
From base text to the whole network with MainWP Boilerplate Extension
A typical walkthrough with a terms of use page:
- You define the tokens. You create placeholders for what varies between sites (the business name or a contact email, for example) and give each Child site its own value. You do it once. Limit: you fill in the values yourself, the extension does not guess them.
- You write the base text. You draft the page or post, placing the tokens where you used to type data by hand. If the base text is weak, it will be weak across the whole network.
- You publish. On publishing, each token is replaced with the predefined value for that Child site, so every website gets its own version without you rewriting it.
- You fix it once. The content can be edited after publishing, and changes made in MainWP Dashboard propagate to all Child sites.
It needs MainWP Dashboard and a text that is already yours
This extension is an add-on for MainWP: it integrates with MainWP Dashboard and does not work as a standalone plugin on an isolated website. If you do not manage your sites from there yet, that is the first step.
It does not write for you either. It does not generate legal texts or adapt them to each client's regulations: that is up to whoever writes the base text. Its job is to make sure what you write reaches every site the same, with the right data. If a site needs a page with its own structure or design, that page is not a candidate for a boilerplate.
Common questions before spreading pages across your network
Is it only for legal pages?
No. Policies and terms are the clearest example, but it works for any page or post with standard text that repeats between sites.
Can I change a token or its value?
Yes, you can create and customize tokens to adapt the content to each Child site.
Can I edit the page once it is published?
Yes. What you edit in MainWP Dashboard propagates to the Child sites.
Does it work without MainWP Dashboard?
No: it is designed to work with it and with your network of connected Child sites.
