Backups nobody checks until the day of the disaster
An agency that maintains twenty sites usually promises backups in every maintenance contract, but rarely looks at them until something fails. Logging into each site to check whether the plan is still configured is so tedious that it keeps getting postponed, and the problem shows up when you discover a backup never existed just as the client is already calling you.
MainWP UpdraftPlus Extension brings that task into one place. It connects the UpdraftPlus plugin on each child site to your MainWP Dashboard, so backups stop being something you set up once and forget, and become part of your management routine.
What you do with backups without leaving your MainWP Dashboard
The extension lets you work with UpdraftPlus from the central panel instead of opening every installation:
- Create backups of child sites whenever you need them, for example before a delicate update.
- Schedule them so they run on a recurring basis.
- Restore them from the same panel if a site breaks.
- Adjust the settings of UpdraftPlus on your child sites from a single point.
The real saving is not in one particular button, but in no longer switching tabs and sessions every time you touch a client's backup.
Where backups live and what happens to MainWP's own backup screens
The extension lets you choose where backups go: your own server, Dropbox, Google Drive, Amazon S3 and others. If you manage client sites, think it through: a backup stored on the same server as the site is useless if the server is what fails. An external destination is the safer option.
You can also use UpdraftPlus as your primary backup system and replace MainWP's backup screens with dedicated UpdraftPlus pages. This helps if you want a tidier interface without two backup systems living side by side.
Should you bet on UpdraftPlus across all your sites with MainWP UpdraftPlus Extension?
This extension is a bridge, not a backup system by itself. It needs MainWP Dashboard and UpdraftPlus installed and active on every child site you want to manage. If your sites use another backup plugin, there is nothing for you here. It works with the free version of UpdraftPlus, but some advanced features depend on UpdraftPlus Premium.
Do I have to install UpdraftPlus on the child sites?
Yes. The extension works together with the UpdraftPlus plugin, which must be installed and activated on every child site.
Does it work with the free version of UpdraftPlus?
Yes, it is compatible with both the free and the Premium versions. Some advanced features may require Premium.
Does it support incremental backups?
Incremental backups are an UpdraftPlus Premium option and can be managed from the extension. Without Premium you will not have them.
Can I store backups in several locations?
Yes. UpdraftPlus offers several remote storage options and lets you configure more than one location for backups.
